What about "the horror done" by France, Belgìum, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Portugal in their respective colonies ? Why do people like you only point the finger at Britain which in any case less oppressive than the colonial regimes of other countries. (And before you mention the Bengal famin of WW2 the claim that Churchill deliberately starved the Bengali population, is untrue. There were a number of different conflicting factors at work. It wasn't, as some Indian authors have claimed, a planned genocide of the Bengali people. Serious Indian historians do not suggest it was. And what other "atrocities" do you claim Britain committed? Name them. Are you aware of what the Spanish "Conquistadors" did to the native peoples of Central and South America? Or the Dutch in their East India colonies? Or the butchery personally ordered Belgian King in the Belgian Congo, or the mistreatment of the native people in France's African colonies? Etc., etc. And yet you and others only ever denounce the British Empire alone. And here's another matter you never address. How is it that it former British colonies chose, of their own free will, to become members of the British Commonwealth, which was essentially a club of former British colonies with Queen Elizabeth II as its Head. (By the way, the Commonwealth did not, as some of its critics claim, pay any taxes to Britain. Nor was the Queen, or the British Government "in charge" of the Commonwealth. It was a free association of former colonies who chose voluntarily to retain links with Britain. There was no coercion. They were free to leave at any time. Some did. Most chose to stay, including, tellingly, India. How many other former colonial empires have formed similar "clubs"? None.
