He probably did get racist remarks and felt bad his parents were involved in the genocide in Rwanda so it was most likely discussed at home.there was every reason to help this man while he was still young enough to be helped but they failed it was to much for them.someone needs to take responsibility but they wont.diversity is definitely not a strength.
