It was needed because of the air friction going that fast caused the kin of the plane to be over 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The skin of the plane heated so much that while on the ground it leaked fuel. Only after flying at high speed that the skin would expand enough to seal the fuel tanks. Also the special fuel cost more than the most expensive Scotch.

  24. I just looked it up, The 2.75" Hydra-70 rockets are $2,800 each. Used against Infantry, Light armored vehicles and ground targets. A Hellfire missle by comparison cost $150,000 each. Used against heavily armored vehicles (tanks) and other aircrafts.
