LOL the guy's English language accent changed when he spoke to his Indian flatmate.

Where's the evidence? Imran Khan couldn't find it.

But what would say a Chinese tenant do with the information about whether you're a North Indian or South Indian. Do they know the difference and would they prefer one over another?

One more dynamic in the Indian community in Singapore is that the Singaporean Tamils feel increasingly sidelined in Singapore by new Tamil arrivals as well as other North and South Indians. Tamils used to be considered synonymous as Indians in Singapore but their numbers are falling as a percentage of the Indian community.

That couldn't possibly go wrong...

Yes, this is generally true. Even when renting one's house out, these questions are asked in India too.

There were NO glorious days of football. Quit joking around.

@ami4302 Literally all Asian communities show this kind of hypocrisy.

@ami4302 There's no caste. There is social class in every society. The biggest problem with caste is its rigidity which makes it very difficult to move out of a particular social class. In other countries, moving out of a social class is also difficult but it is not as rigid as caste. That's the main difference. I actually live in Hong Kong and there is a sense of social class here. But it's not a caste system.

Niko Lodeon Your sentence shows that you are a clear believer that the minority is always oppressed by the majority and the minority has no responsibility of goodwill towards the majority.

In the case of Singapore, Singapore has basically established that Chinese, Malay and Tamils are the typical Singaporeans and therefore, Tamil culture is part of Singapore culture. What this means for example is that if someone came from Vietnam, then they should adapt because they are not Chinese, Malay or Tamil.

@KK-ro7gx Singapore had a Chinese majority for a while and during independence it was also a Chinese majority. You can't change the past. The country was defined to be 3 ethnicities. So it is multiethnic but outside of those 3 ethnicities, they are essentially considered foreigners.
