No. And I feel sad about this as a patriotic Indian. India will grow but it won't pass China. It will grow at its own speed and its own terms.

Both economies were shit in the 1980s. China was more communist than India was and both were socialist. However, China made bold and broad reforms as an authoritarian country can do. India took a much more gradual route which is what has resulted in its much slower pace of growth. This is a critical flaw of democracy.

You have to buy land is specific industrial zones and have the blessings of politicians. It is not so easy otherwise.

Pedro Daniel Correct. I like Swamy but he's just wrong on this.

@johnwalsh4857 It is unpalatable to suggest this but I have yet to see the contrary to this. If we talk about the tiger economies, Singapore was under PAP grip and still doesn't have a robust democracy, South Korea was authoritarian till 1987. Hong Kong had British rule and no elections until 1994 and even those elections are not fully free and now, authoritarianism has increased again. Taiwan had authoritarianism until the 1990s.

@keshavbeniwal1686 Potential is all we have. When are we going to live up to it? We don't have the right mindset or systems nor are we showing signs. And it's not just about government, it's about our public. And I'm sorry as much as I love India, our public will not help us become rich.

India is not a big threat to China right now but it is the ONLY country which could ostensibly ever pose a threat. China knows this and does not want to cooperate with India to see it rise.
