I can tell you, as a former RMT member, that this union is only interested in their own needs, not what’s best for their members. Their interest is in agitating to make the union seem relevant, trying to keep the subscriptions coming in. What they never see is how jobs need to fit into a changing world. It’s all politically driven and the members are just canon fodder to them.

@christophermoorhouse8828 I was a train guard. Any more lies you want to put out there?

Sick of ‘rich people’ while fighting for pay rises for some people earning twice the average wage. Train crew are fantastically well rewarded for a job that doesn’t require qualifications or university training, unlike nurses and teachers who get paid less!

Exactly. Nurses and teachers come out of uni after years of studying and thousands of pounds in debt and still take home less that this lot.

@phildavies6020 plus train crew such as guards and some drivers, including drivers on London Underground. It’s simply not true that this is all about low paid staff/grades.

@neilcunningham8938 exactly. Why do unions often reject offers without even putting the revised offer to the members - because they want the dispute to go on.

Turkeys voting for Christmas, killing off an industry that’s already struggling. It’s what unions do best.

Just like the Northern Rail guards who don’t seem to know there is a train beyond the back cab. They claim they are essential but half of them can’t be arsed to do the job they are (very well) paid for.
