@BatteredWalrus we ended the slave trade….a trade that began hundreds of years before we were involved and in which African tribal leaders were heavily involved. It was a global issue that Britain lead the way on abolishing.

@l.7742 a patronising response clearly showing your bias - talking about 'institutional racism' which is a favoured term of people with an agenda. Nobody has yet picked up on the point that widespread enslavement of Africans was going on centuries before the Brits got involved, and African tribal leaders were actively involved all along. Nobody comes out of this well, so why are the British singled out?
7
@BatteredWalrus If that were true, surely it would apply to every country involved in the slave trade. So, why single out the Brits?
7
@poorsonwelles so, you’re just ignoring all the slavery that went on before that, such as the exports of slaves from Africa to the Middle East that began in the seventh century. Or the fact the the British weren’t even the first Europeans to be involved, but were the first to abolish it.
7
To who? They are all dead 😂

@django3422 could be tricky to compensate slaves 200 years after they died. Perhaps better to focus on those in slavery today?
3
People that want cash because they play the ‘victim’ card. Honestly, it’s pathetic.
3
Because it’s all about race-baiting and trying to get cash out of us.
3
@django3422 thanks for that insight, very illuminating
2
Doubt it….it doesn’t fit the victim narrative
2
Jesus wept….move on from 200 years ago, stop feeling guilty for something you didn’t do, and focus on today,
2
And it began hundreds of years before we were involved.
2
Don’t hold your breath….the BBC hates Britain.
1
Well that makes zero sense 😂. What about the African nations that sold slaves, or the Middle East nations that bought them?
1
Anyone that buys cheap clothes, food or electronics is benefiting from slavery today….a much more important issue than events of 200+ years ago.

@Native_Guyy how….they are all dead!
