  4.  @joewilliams8658  no, a proposal was put forward then….it didn’t pass parliament until 2017. Labour did nothing for rail in the north.

  5.  @Boghopper9999  Tories delivered great western electrification, north-west electrification, transpennine upgrade under way, cross rail, new trains everywhere…..Labour did what, beyond HS1? Blair gave us London Underground PFI which collapsed and a Northern Rail zero-growth franchise that were still recovering from today.

  10. Beeching closed nothing, the government did. Oh, and the majority of closures happened under the Wilson Labour government after they campaigned to stop the closures while in opposition!

  11.  @bobmason1361  so, once again ignoring that Beeching himself didn’t close anything, only made suggestions, and the vast majority of closures happened under a Labour government long after Beeching had gone.
