This study is fundamentally flawed in that it assumes that all forms of "charity" are inherently good. But many "charities" are actually deeply reactionary and are part of the problem. When billionaire oligarchs like Bill Gates or Michael Bloomberg donate to "education charities", for example, it is usually part of a neoliberal campaign to privatize public schools and replace them with charter schools. And in many cases, these billionaire oligarchs also have significant investments in the same industry they are "donating" too (like charter schools or pharmaceuticals); so their "charity" can be seen as more of a tax-deductible investment.
