Quite a bit of this video doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I know of a case where somebody was flying a recreational drone near fort Hamilton in Brooklyn New York. She was not in controlled or restricted air space. Some bozo from the fort used a jammer and caused her drone to crash. Then they detained, interrogated and held her for a long while. The lawsuit against the government is ongoing.

The DJI Matrice 350 RTK Has a flight time of less than an hour. "Max Flight Time 55 minutes Measured with Matrice 350 RTK flying at approximately 8 m/s without payloads in a windless environment until the battery level reached 0%. Data is for reference only. Actual usage time may vary depending on the flight mode, accessories, and environment. Please pay attention to reminders in the app. "

@paladro I just explained to you that the drone was not in an "off limits" area. Nowhere in airspace regulations will you find the term "around a US military installation". It's pretty clear that you don't understand how this stuff works. You seem to be assuming that your idea of common sense is the law, but it's not.

They could be flying autonomously without any control link. However it would have been very easy to just follow them with the helicopter or another drone. There's a lot in this report that doesn't make any sense. What makes a lot more sense is another branch of the government testing UAS.

This makes a lot more sense than the conspiracy theories. If they really were unidentified and presumed invasive then why didn't the military just follow them?

A simple helicopter or even their own small drones.

Alex got a lot wrong in this video. When he was saying that the drones weren't shot down because of the Posse Comitatus act how could he not remember the F-22 shooting down the balloon and realize the contradiction?
3
I'm not sure that Alex was correct about that. We didn't have any trouble shooting down that Chinese balloon. I know of a case where some bozo at a military base used a jammer and intentionally caused a recreational drone to crash. The drone wasn't even over the base.

We were able to track down the operator. Would have been easy to just follow the drones...

@Emophiliac2 6 miles offshore is where they chose to do it because it was still in US airspace but not over a populated area. Legally speaking, 6 miles inland or 6 miles offshore is the same thing. Without checking I'm pretty sure that US customs and border patrol operate within 100 miles of the border.

RID is one of the dumbest and most useless things I've ever met ever came up with.

They were flying low and slowbut nobody got the bright idea to follow them? Yea right 😂
1
Xi got his drone stuck on January 6th and was arrested on January 18th? No flights to China available any sooner? I think a spy trying to escape would have had other options than waiting 12 days...

Matrice rhymes with neice, peace, etc. It doesn't sound like the thing that we sleep on.
1
They expect me to believe that these easy to see drones were flying low and slow but nobody got the bright idea to follow them? I don't buy it.
1
Yes, that's possible

You shouldn't get in trouble for flying near a hospital unless it's in control the restricted airspace (and you failed to get authorization).
1
If the Posse Comitatus act were a factor how are we able to shoot down the balloon? I know of a case where military crashed a hobbyist drone that wasn't even in restricted airspace. Alex got a lot wrong in this video...

Based on Alex's description it's very unlikely that these were "commercially available assets". I'm not aware of any drones in that class that can fly a 100 mph or for that amount of time. There is a hybrid gas-electric drone that can fly long and far, but it's bigger and slower than what Alex is describing.
1
Define "every military installation". Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn New York doesn't have restricted or prohibited airspace as far as I know. If you believe that it is restricted or prohibited can you explain where that comes from?
1
Lol How are they gonna make sure that somebody's drone has RID when that person doesn't want to be identified? RID is stupid, useless for threat mitigation and invasive to legal remote pilots. The only thing that RID is good for is identifying dumb Americans who go buy a drone and don't learn about airspace regulations.
