  3. If the United States hadn't stolen Hawaii would Japan, China or some European country have stolen it? Given those options perhaps ending up as an American state wasn't such a bad deal? It's easy to judge the past without understanding the context of the day. These days there seems to be more and more judgment of very important people from our past, people who did great things but now by today's snot nose kids standards with a lack of any context those heroes are made out to be villains.

  8. The FIM-92 stinger missile is not the same as it was a couple decades ago. It's certainly not the "exact same missile". Many of our missiles and other weapons systems have been around for a very long time. They have been constantly upgraded to the point that they have almost nothing in common with the original, except the name. The F16 started with block 25 and now we're up to block 72. Johnny would refer to it as the exact same airplane...

  9. I'm not sure that the US and the Soviet Union were friends or Allies at that time. During the war we were temporary frenemies. Immediately after WW2 the cold war began and we had a lot of difficulty agreeing on the implementation of the Korean tresteeship. Soon thereafter we had another crisis called the Berlin blockade and the resulting Berlin airlift. Things have only gone downhill since then. Other than WW2, US/Soviet/Russia relations have been poor at best.

  15. In addition to all that there's also the issue of oil. Russia's primary source of revenue by far is selling oil and gas. Turns out that Ukraine has a lot of oil and gas around Crimea and in the east, the first places that Russia stole. If Ukraine had been able to sell their oil and gas to Europe that would have put in a huge crimp in Putin's style and his oligarchs...

  18. How could Saddam have conducted a genocidal gas attack on the Kurds when so many people have now come to the conclusion that he didn't have WMD? Things don't just disappear. American servicemen in Iraq found that stuff and destroyed it. There are first-hand accounts available to read and even videos to watch for those who are interested.

  19. Interesting timing. I recently came across this video and remembered Point Roberts. Then yesterday I happened to see a story on the news about Point Roberts and how Canada has kept the border very strictly closed. So closed that Point Roberts has been effectively isolated since the beginning of the pandemic. This whole time they've had one case of coronavirus but they have been isolated to the point that the city is basically dead. Businesses are dead, everything's dead and currently the border still not open so any hope of a reprieve from this tourist season is lost. Of course the US citizens in Point Roberts have friends and family in Canada, some of whom have gotten married, had children, had funerals and all kinds of other normal life events. Unfortunately Canada wouldn't let the friends and relatives from Point Roberts attend because you know, the border is closed. We kind of think that Canada is a lot like the US and in some ways it is but the more I learn the more it seems like Canada is similar to the US and the worst ways. If you're interested watch the YouTube channel Viva frei which is published by a Canadian lawyer.

  22. @johnnyharris There is another category, people with permanent disabilities. For those who are able and motivated to do some kind of work there are big problems. To start with, the number of accessible jobs and hiring managers willing to take a chance on a disabled person (and their baggage) are far and few between. The people in this category have ongoing medical expenses that are not optional so they need to maintain eligibility for SSD or some other program. Just about any work that they do will make them ineligible for the program that they need. If you didn't know, being considered disabled by the government isn't just about being disabled, it's also about not making too much money (about 1200/ month). Regardless of your disability, if you earn more than that you're not considered disabled so you're not eligible for SSD/ medicare. Accessible housing and transportation are far bigger, more expensive problems than for the people in the other categories. Some people reading this might be thinking that there are section 8 and other affordable housing programs. The number of those units are far less than the number of people who need them. Also, like the healthcare benefit programs they have strings attached which prevent a person from trying to improve their life financially. Vehicles that are modified to be accessible or very expensive and out of the reach of most people. Howard somebody accumulate the money for that without jeopardizing their eligibility for SSD? Even if someone were gifted vehicle like that, some programs would consider it an asset that might cause them to be ineligible. Trying to have an enjoyable, productive life and be a productive part of society is big challenge, especially with the unnecessary restrictions imposed by the government.

  26. How does diplomacy resolve the issue of Russia rebuilding its Empire by force? Diplomacy only works if all parties involved or interested in it working. Don't make the mistake of thinking that authoritarians like Putin, Xi and Kim think the way we do. When you're neighbor only has one game and that game is force and they bring it to you to take your stuff, you better be able to respond with force. Diplomacy is useless in that situation. Putin wasn't concerned about NATO or nazis in chechnya, Georgia or Ukraine. Putin wants his Empire back.

The difference between Russia's information control and that in of the US is that the US is more subtle and discreet. The US government also has that pesky Constitution to deal with. To circumvent that limitation it works through big tech. YouTube, Facebook, AWS and the others will demonetize, shadowban or overtly ban agendas that they don't like and a lot of it is influenced by the US government. Interesting how Johnnie's examples of media bias in the west only included one side. I don't like usually Tucker either but there is more bias on the other side, the sign that wasn't included.

  29. Interesting but it totally skipped over the aspect of us domestic natural gas being a tremendous source of security. You see how Russia basically has the world been over backwards because the world needs the fossil fuels that Russia exports? You see the war that's going on primarily because Ukraine has tremendous amounts of gas and oil which it could use to be independent and could also export to europe? Just imagine China doing the same thing with batteries. The more we depend on China, Russia, Iran or anyone else the more insecure the world will be. It's interesting how the current administration would prefer to buy fuel and batteries from other places rather than produce them here. If we produce these things domestically we actually have some control over it's effects on the environment but when we get them from other places we give up that control. It's completely counterintuitive and counterproductive. So why do they want it like that? Follow the money!

  31. While Robert wicker would benefit from more ship building that doesn't mean he's wrong that we need more ships. I don't like the conflict of interest but he's not wrong. Reagan increased the size of the navy dramatically and basically since the Soviet Union fell our entire military as gotten smaller and more efficient. Meanwhile, China and Russia I've been getting bigger and stronger. Russia's worn down at the moment thanks to Ukraine but it's war machine and wartime economy are running at full speed. When the war ends Russia will rebuild with all new stuff, not the old soviet garbage that it's been loosing. The US ship building industry is pitiful along shipping in general. China builds more than half of the global ships and the US is well below 10% . This puts us at a huge disadvantage economically and militarily.

  42. Lobbyists and the revolving door are also happening with Skydio and certain us politicians like Elise stefanic. Skydio is an American drone producer that's trying to have the competition outlawed rather than building better drones at a similar price point. American politicians have been happy to take science money to implement legislation against the competition. Even worse than that, they've created a false narrative that the competition is a threat to national security. They keep making those claims but refuse to substantiate them or address reputable research to the contrary.
