@dreddy_g A companion question would be, "Why aren't all Gov't. vehicles fully electric, including the President's motorcade"? I would say Air Force One, too, but I don't want to stretch my point too far.

@fredbloggs5902 You're kind of missing my point, I suspect intentionally. Yeah, I understand they're not going to use batteries to power the space shuttle. And I know WHY they don't use battery powered vehicles in motorcades and in other Govt vehicles - which is my point. We're just not there yet in their suitability. Private citizens want to be able to let their cars idle or stay on hours on end, also. Private citizens want to be able to floor it sometimes without worrying it if will drain their batteries too much to make it to their destination. Private citizens want to be able to go out in their car and drive away, or even sit and get warm or cold, if their power has gone out for a day or two, which happens. Private citizens want to have a range farther than 250 miles. That's my point. The Govt doesn't want to deal with these inconveniences, so how does it justify making us do so?

I'm not sold on fully electric vehicles, but several years ago when my money situation changed, I got rid of my Duramax diesel and bought a low-mileage used Prius. That Prius now has 246,000 miles and still on the original battery. It's a 2010. No other work on the car besides oil changes, brakes, tires, and just recently, replace struts and shocks. Not sure why I'm saying this, as I basically agree with the original comment. I'm just leting people know, the batteries don't die as early as most people think.

@filbertovandette It's not nonsense. I'm a truck driver for a small family owned company. We have a club cab Duramax as a utility vehicle that I have free use of 24/7 all the time. I infact DID use that truck several times when my own Duramax was in the shop getting injectors replaced, getting rusted brake lines replaced, new injector pump, and I could go one and on. That truck was bleeding me dry, especially when diesel prices went up pretty high back then. I realized I could save a ton of money by getting a dependable, fuel efficient car and just using the work truck when I needed it. I did my research and found out which car was the cheapest to own at the time, and it was a used Prius. So I found a nice low mileage one and sold my truck. Your dumb comment is shear nonsense.

People like you are a huge reason why many people refuse to look at the situation with an open mind. And there are way too many people like you, on your side. When the power goes out, I bet you're glad you can still use your cell phone! Those cell phone towers have a diesel generator at their base to keep them working when power goes out. A dirty fossil fuel diesel generator which needs dirty oil changes. If your house catches fire, I bet you want a nice heavy duty fire truck to come and pump that water using it's dirty diesel engine with it's dirty oil. If you fly anywhere, I bet you love that nice dirty fossil jet fuel (a variation of diesel) to make that plane fly! There's a place for both all-electric AND fossil fuel in this world, for many different applications and for different people. No need to be a jerk about it all. Also, for all those die hard tree huggers out there lamenting about using fossil fuel because it's a finite resource, I wonder how long it will be before they lament the use of lithium batteries, as they, too, are a finite natural resource. And who is man, to think we can rape dear mother Earth of her precious, finite, natural minerals for our own enjoyment?

@fredbloggs5902 The question is now. All the laws and rules about EV's are now. The Gov't should be the pioneer of the best and greatest technology. If they're forcing us to use EV's (to varying degrees), it's not unrealistic or unfair to ask, "Why aren't they fully committed to using them"? And yes, I know they use them a little bit here and there, for menial things and where they have fleets of fossil fuel support vehicles to back them up, and for occasional photo-ops, by why not for important roles, like the motorcade, and why not all Congress members personal vehicles? Why not for all those FB I suv's? Just like the space program, cyber security, military,.... the Govt should always be using the best most advanced products available. But here they are still driving big gas guzzling trucks and SUV's.

@ChaosSwissroIl No, most people think they die from 5 to 10 years. They generally last at least 10 years. And replacement can be done by the owner, or by a mobile installer, or a shop, never costing more than $3K in most areas. (Dealers will obviously be more). I've been watching prices for the last couple of years because mine is now 14 years old, and I've been figuring it should be going up any time now. I'm in the Balto-Wash area, but I've looked all over the internet and those prices seem to be about the going rate.

@ChaosSwissroIl Yeah, I see in your other comment, yours was an 09 and died in '15. Maybe because yours was a 2nd generation? Mine is a '10 which is 3rd generation. Either way, I think yours was a rarity. Maybe due to your location, or if you let it sit for long periods of time? If you search the internet, I'm sure you'll see they typically last much longer than 6 years. I think Toyota warranted the battery for 10 years/1000000 miles back then, even. Not positive about that. I would love to have my big diesel truck again, but I just can't afford it anymore. My Prius has saved me a ton of money

💯A reasonable comment! The scam is the Govt fighting gas and diesel vehicles. EV's have a place, for people who want them. The Govt needs to get out of the "Climate Change" business.

@JonHop1 I actually DO have a low mileage used Corolla in the family, haha! The Prius still gets better mileage than it, and can haul a lot more stuff. I'm not here trying to argue, really. I was just making a point that at least in the hybrid vehicles, the battery life is a lot more than 6 or so years and doesn't cost $10-60K to replace like many people think EVERY "car with an electric motor" does.

@dsc420247 Haha! Yeah, I've heard that a few times. Because I'm a man, it doesn't bother me. I think it's funny too. But I've been laughing all the way to the bank for several years now! Especially when I pull into the gas stations and see the previous customer paid $40, $50, or $70 on the gas pumps!

@slayerhuh404 I do believe the "full EV" situation, with the way the Government is pushing it (in some cases demanding it) is a scam. My Prius is a hybrid, which means it still has a gas engine, so I'm not limited by the range of the battery pack. I believe at least for the forseeable future, the hybrid system is the way to go. And I don't think the Govt should be banning gas or diesel engines and forcing anything on anyone. It should be a personal choice. My point was basically that, at least in my car, the battery has lasted quite long and many miles, more than most average gas engine only cars last or are kept by their owners. The battery isn't gonna die in 5 years making the car worthless, like many think, and what I think the original comment was hinting at.

@ottovonbismarck7094 When I had to get rid of my truck, I tried to get a VW TDI, as I have always been a big diesel proponent also (And I had a diesel tank on my property to fuel it from home, and I could always put cooking oil and used transmission fluid and engine oil in it if the apocalypse came!). But I wanted nothing to do with DEF and I read all kinds of horror stories about the repair costs and poor reliability of the REST of the VW cars, I didn't want to get back into that after going through what I did with the Duramax. So research led me to a used Prius as being the cheapest, most low maintenance car to own at the time.

Haha, what happened to the coming ice age? That's what I was taught in elementary and middle school! If we kept the lights on too much, and kept using gas in our cars, our Earth would be a frozen tundra by the age I am now! That's what my teachers and Principle told me!
