Also, if a persons particular STATE charges high taxes, those can no longer be deducted on the Federal form. So that person very well could actually pay more. But it makes sense. Before this, citizens living in states that had only moderate tax rates were in effect subsidizing those other states who decided to have very large taxes (then write them off on the Federal level, thus making the rest of America make up for them). I'm not sure this actually went through, but it was a big discussion at the time Trump unveiled his tax reform package, and this was how it was explained to me. I guess I'll find out when I do my taxes this year - I'm in one of the higher taxed states🤬

@TinyDancer250 Hmmmm.... I have xfinity (comcast). Ive been wanting to cut all ties to them, but having internet is keeping me. I guess I'll keep status quo for the time being.
