  1. Good observation! Bush was better than we've been led to believe, and Obama was worse than we've been led to believe. Obviously the media had a huge part in developing these beliefs.

  2.  @matts-so6ql  I know you think your take is correct, and on the surface it does seem like that is the case, but in reality the tax code is much more complex than just a blanket one-size-affects-all entity. I'm sure you've heard about all the "green energy" handouts and other tax favors given to specific businesses. And recently, we had what was nicknamed the "Walmart Bill" in which the tax code was used against one specific company. I'm not fully against lobbying, (it's how groups of individuals can have a chance to influence our Representatives), but manipulating the tax code and other laws are exactly what lobbyists get paid to do. They go to DC to convince members of Congress to make laws in favor of their clients - often in favor of only their clients! So yes, very large companies do get "personal" tax benefits (I don't really consider any tax law a loophole).

  3. There is no difference. Liberals are on the left, therefore leftists. It's a mental gymnastics game some people play to make themselves feel better about themselves. "I may be Liberal, but I'm not a Leftist!" or "I may be a little to the left, but I'm not a Liberal!"

  5. We don't do it because we're brainwashed to do so, we do it because it's the proper description. Liberals were on the left, Conservatives were on the right. The Overton window has shifted a little, but it's still true in current times. As a matter of fact, the "conceding language" aspect would be what people are trying to do today, when saying Liberals are not on the left. I've actually seen comments saying Hillary is right-wing! "Right" is just another word for Conservative, therefore all the other terms fall to the left, including Liberal. (Obviously I'm talking about the US - what is conservative here may be different in other countries). Conservatives want to conserve the values, ideals, customs, and traditions this country was founded upon. Liberals want to liberate them selves from those same values, ideals, customs, and traditions. Since our country was founded as a "right" style of society, in the US conservatives are on the right.
