Yep! Some wise person in our history made some quotable statement that said something along the lines of, "As soon as the majority figures out they can vote themselves more money, the Republic is lost". That's not exact, but it was something similar to that. And it may have been about Congressman, not the populace, but the point still applies across the board. Probably now more than ever, since in current times people have much less scruples, pride, honor, etc...

@ShrexyGuy It's actually true though. Al Sharpton, NAACP, and others were very active in getting policies changed. A class action lawsuit was filed against Countrywide for "discrimination" against a "race", NOT discrimination against people with bad credit history or low income. So Y'all are always trying to defend certain people and always making excuses and lies to try to change history. Sure, lots of things happened during the housing bubble/crisis. But the main thing was that the whole housing loan industry was accused of being racist and at least one institution was taken to court over it. Lots of changes were made after that to "make up" for what had been done, and obviously the result of those changes were that many more black Americans were granted loans - regardless of their payment history or income or job stability. We're not just making these things up. Many of us were living at the time and watching Congress and following the news back then. It actually happened that way. We're not 20 year olds getting our news from South Park (although I'm a huge SP fan!). Obviously there were other issues that contributed to the bubble, and I could write several more paragraphs describing them, but Ashish's comment was correct.

That, and the minimum wage hike that kicked in. Once again, raising the min wage caused layoffs, less hours for workers, and higher prices, but history will never record it having that effect because of everything else happening. But yeah, the whole energy thing is just moronic, if not downright evil. We need Trump back so badly.....

@kdrapertrucker Trump did an extremely good job! Hidden on the internet there are places that list all of his accomplishments, and it's amazing how many things he did that helped our country and made our way of living better. Many things you probably never heard of. The news was against him every second, from even before he won. Had the news been even just a little less biased, like maybe how they were a couple decades ago, Trump would have been loved on par with Reagan, maybe even more so. He definitely would have won a second term, and I bet our economy would be going like crazy right now instead of what it's doing.

Great point! Knowing this would have never happened under a Trump presidency, pretending it did - you KNOW Trump would be very active in getting it resolved one way or another. Not using it as an excuse for everything wrong in our country.

Well, for the people who did it and benefitted from it, I'm sure they think it was worth it. 😡
