  1. My 2010 Prius has that solar panel set up! I think it's a waste - I'd rather it power an outlet, or trickle charge the battery instead of just running the ventilation fan.

  4.  @andrewhatton1606  A man who sold his Corvettes and Silverado Duramax due to never ending repairs and junk GM (American) reliability. After spending all my money on that truck, I had no money left and researched to find the most dependable, lowest-cost-to-own, car available for a modest amount and all research pointed to the Prius. I went out and bought an older used one. Now, What kind of man makes such a dumb comment? (PS. A man who drives 60k miles a year).

  9.  @arieljones4595  And if it wasn't hot outside, it charged the battery. If Mazda could do it back then, why didn't toyota do it a decade later - on a much more technically sophisticated vehicle? I still wish there was a decent way I could rewire it to power a charging outlet.

  10.  @MrAranton  Personally, I DO often sit in or next to my car for many hours at a time (see my channel, I drive around and record trains, among other things), so to me, it would be convenient to be able to turn my car off, and charge my camera battery, scanner battery, or even phone battery while I'm just sitting around waiting. I see people with little 3 inch x 5 inch solar panels keeping their phones charged, and I have this massive solar panel on my car 50x larger, and can't do a thing with it. I understand your point about it being older technology, but it just seems to me it could be used for something other than that fan.

  11.  @JoshuaIS1  I know. I don't need to do any research. I said, "keeping their phones charged", not charging up a phone. I know full well they those little solar panels charge up a separate battery which in turn charges/powers the phone. And I also said I sit with the car parked for hours. My point is, if I drive somewhere in the middle of night and arrive in the morning (for the sake of argument, pretend I was charging something else during the car ride and I used my phone for navigation and listening to music the whole way without plugging it in), and my phone is at 60%, I'd like to be able to turn my car off and plug my phone into the port connected to that huge solar roof panel while it sits all day, and when I'm ready to leave, my phone is still at 60% or so. If a tiny solar panel battery can do that, a huge roof panel should be able to keep my phone's battery charged while spending a day sitting in the sun.

  14.  @samhilo443  I think even the "bad" ones stay good til at least 100k. Mine has 220k with never any problems. Knock on wood, doesn't lose any oil between changes and still stays golden clean .I'm crossing my fingers that since it's good at this point, mine might not suffer this problem.
