  2. If they eliminate public housing, section 8 and rent control the cost of housing would drop immediately . The supply would skyrocket because people who can’t afford to live there would move to an area they can afford.

  4. rent control is clearly an illegal taking of private property for a public good and these land lords need to be compensated by the govt. The govt wants rents that their voters can afford so instead of providing it themselves, they force private land lords to provide affordable housing at the expense of other tenants. This drives out investment, it drives out development and ultimately hurts low income people. Because unless you get a sweetheard deal, there is no way you can afford to live there. It screws over everyone except the govt officials.

  8.  @hmhm856  these govt programs are propping up the price. If there is a floor in price, it won’t fall beyond that. I will give you an example, let’s say the govt gets out of the medical insurance game. It ends Medicare, Medicaid and va benefits. The price of health care would drop by like 75% in a month. They can only charge what people can pay. Same for rents.

  21. 17% of home purchases is not a huge number. Hardly a monopoly. Imagine being a seller and the govt limits who you can sell to. This would mean you get less money.

  25. Rent control is theft. The govt wants to provide affordable housing to the citizens, but doesn’t want to pay for it. So they essentially steal property from landlords and give it to people who will vote for them.

  27. The best solution is eliminate rent control and expedite evictions. Investment will flood in and prices will go down for everyone as there will be a ton of competition.
