  2. rent control is clearly an illegal taking of private property for a public good and these land lords need to be compensated by the govt. The govt wants rents that their voters can afford so instead of providing it themselves, they force private land lords to provide affordable housing at the expense of other tenants. This drives out investment, it drives out development and ultimately hurts low income people. Because unless you get a sweetheard deal, there is no way you can afford to live there. It screws over everyone except the govt officials.
