@805fillmore then you really don’t know much. It is a very famous story. Yes, the fact is he left America because they wanted to make cars cheap. Look up Edward Deming. Read the book, The Reckoning, by David Halberstam. It is the parallel histories of the Japanese and American car industries.

@RLewis-yz4yd I'm sitting looking at this guy thinking make me an offer on my white 2006 LS430, sub 100K, that doesnt lose a drop of anything, New Lexus rotors all the way around, thinking pay me a lot and you ciuld have saved a bundle, but honestly doubt I would sell.
8
And the irony is it was an American engineer who taught Honda and Toyota how to do it right after American companies would not listen to him.
7
Of course he could have bought my white 2006, mint, 100K miles, and instead gone to the beach. 😂😅

It’s because awd is what sells.
5
Still has the stupid grill.
4
@BeReady726 that I was a car salesman at a huge lot, and people definitely preferred awd drive over 2 wheel drive, ESPECIALLY in upscale cars. It was often a requirement.

@TheCarCareNut my fluid has in recent weeks turned green, still clear, on a 2006 LS 430. It is 30K + since the last change. I would love to try this myself. It looks not too hard, but will this work with ABS no problem? I thought you need to computer tool to assist In doing that.

Or just make sure you don’t have the button below the dash on the right side off, which deactivates the smart key for proximity purposes.

@805fillmore and engineers do not want to build cheap cars. It’s the finance people. It all began with Robert McNamara at Ford.

Just washed and waxed Mine yesterday. 2006, 93K. On the smart key, you can turn off the wireless entry, which keeps it safer.
2
I just ordered a new one for the hell of it on an 18 year old car. Happy birthday car.
2
I have an LS 430. I’m thinking the same. No probs braking, but it’s beyond time. Did you have a problem with ABS? What model and year do you have?
2
@gtstaples9720 ya, I imagine. I don’t trust dealers, but at the same time I had one dealer show me a huge grinding sound was nothing more than a bent piece of metal that an indie mechanic screwed up and charged me nothing. So I guess you never know. I think the LS beginning with the 460 starts getting into new territories that weren’t issues for 430s and 400s. I’ll probably just have it all bled at a shop. But it would be really nice to do it cheaply. No spongy brakes though.
2
@gtstaples9720 I assume you saw his recent posting about the xtel (?) scan tool for about 400-500 bucks that can take you through the ABS brakes bleed I believe. He raves about it and so does Scotty Kilmer. You sound a lot more experienced than me, so maybe it is something you could use to check out everything and use in the future.

2006 LS 430, 99K, Zero oil leaks, all good 😊
2
I think CCN is awesome. But honestly, the best and most honest mechanics I ever had, and the kind I want, is these brothers were covered in grease and oil, and the shop looked like a mechanic shop where they worked on cars, not a photo studio. I don’t trust super clean shops. No one screws you like a dealership, and no one is cleaner than a dealership.
2
Just in case you have not tried, and while this probably isn’t it, if you disconnect your car battery for 15 plus minutes, it can reset everything. It did for mine. Of course, most of the time I use my phone and an fm Bluetooth transmitter. By the CD player is awesome.
2
As for brake pads, look for Akebano Pro Act Ceramic. Everyone recommends them, including Scotty Kilmer and a Mercedes master mechanic with a YouTube channel. They are as good or better than the original, as they work directly with the manufacturer.

I have 2006 LS 430 w/abs brakes. I’ve read a scan tool with techstream is required. However, I’ve yet to see someone post who has a definitive answer or might be a real authority. Can I get away with something like this or MUST I use to do the tools and have the ABS done?
1
I just checked my fluid with 95K on a 2006. Clean as a whistle, it seems.
1
And take cell phone pics with time and date attached.
1
@edp128128 mafs A lot cheaper.
1
@jamram9924 I’m there now. Good to know.
1
@gtstaples9720 and thanks for responding.
1
@richardcasey7521 do you have an ls430?
1
I have a base model. No screen. I love it.
1
Or you can buy my 2006 LS 430 with less than 100K, lol. It's like buying a time machine.
1
My 430 has 95K.

Or just make sure you don’t have the button below the dash on the right side off, which deactivates the smart key for proximity purposes.

Got Akebano ceramic from front and read. Zero problems. Lasts twice as long.

Look at the Project Farm tests of air filters. The K&N performed very poorly. In terms of keep the air clean, Wix and Purolator were the clear winners.

I had a civic that was hit at 40mph when I was a dead stop and shoved into car in front of me 3 weeks after I bought it used with 60K. The windows blew out, the hood crumpled, the trunk folded in like an accordion, and the radiator smash. The insurance company tried to cheap me and not total it. But then my body guy found all sorts of stuff that had to be added. It was a lot more than the total value. Best thing that ever happened. It was rebuilt with all knew Honda stuff. It went another 100K zero problems when I dispatched it.

Too dang big. If they had made it the size of the jeep, It would still be going.
