@zulemek ""Slaven" which is different in only one wovel but derives from completely different root" you lead yourself into a corner... the root is the same "word" -> if you are famous then people gonna say a "word" about you... glory->legends are told about you=>legends are also constructed with words. In Polish there is plenty of "word": engaged ->po słowie -> after word ->it can be also used to describe some other bussines contracts for the future. promise -> przyrzeknij -> near/close+speak =>daj słowo -> give me a word "słowny" -> verbal, reliable, wordy, dependable "słowo honoru" =>on my honor (but you can often hear it shortened to just "słowo" if someone is trying to convince you that he is not lying/pulling your leg). The most important thing about Slavic people and Vikings is the fact that Slavic people were able to protect its land from Vikings that were living in the worst part of Europe where it was cold, land was much less fertile and people living there invented religion that was claiming that dying in a battle is the biggest honor for a man -> because the whole Viking history was about invading and stealing stuff from rich parts of Europe and selling them somewhere else. Vikings did not left castles, monasteries or books... we can go nowadays to Scandinavia and see some rocks there with some primitive symbols carved on them that looks like a work of some illiterate that never did that before and is trying to pretend that it is not the case(propably to act as the wise guy among Vikings)... In Hollywood movies Vikings are the cool guys when in reality they were Somali pirates of Europe.
