Sputnik was intended to have some science equipment in it but Soviet electronic was complete crap and they were using American stuff during the war and repacking it in Soviet case with soviet badges after the war... Sputnik 1: 4 October 1957 -> 83.6 kg (184 lb). Explorer 1: 1 February 1958 -> 13.97 kg (30.8 lb) And american first satelite was actualy full of scientifical electronics that worked for 111 days, Soviet satelite was doing only BEP! - BEP! and was able to do it for only 22 days with 51 kg (112 lb) power supply... In fact if we compare first Soviet and first American space probe then we can see how far behind was Soviet Union and the distance was only getting wider. Venus probe only achivment was that it was able to survive the pressure on Venuse surface and Soviets were able to do it via making the probe from titanium->Soviet to this day is one of the biggest producers of titanium... How is that a "scientifical achievment" that Soviets/Russians have titanium source on Russian territory?! USA was forced to make fake companies and buy titanium for SR-71 Blackbird from Soviet Union via this fake companies as Soviets got a monopoly on titanium back then. Venus probe did not have any landing system on it... no parachute or thrusters->titanium+dense Venus atmosphere did all the job.

@ozymandiasultor9480 Because there is no word in them that most people in your country will be poor, that you will gonna have problem with food even if you live in the country that was one of the biggest food producers for centuries->Holodomor(Ukraine). Animal Farm by George Orwell tells everything and you can watch animated film on YT if you are too lazy to read it. That book is from 1945, before many more millions of people were starved to death(or worse) by Marx folowers...
