  2. "He said it was funny at the time but later on thought how dirt poor these people had to be to not even have indoor plumbing." Yes for huge percent of Russia territory => outside of big cities it is the same story even in 2024... "According to the latest population census, 10% of Russian households have a toilet on the street, 59% have a toilet in the house, the remaining respondents did not answer this question. According to the same census, there are about 64 million households in Russia. That is, Rosstat surveys show that approximately 6.6 million families do not have a toilet in their home." that is data from June 1, 2023 There is a great book about Red Army writen by Belarusian Sergiusz Piasecki that saw Bolshevik Revolution in Minsk and made decision to work for Polish inteligence and spy USSR for Poland. The book name is "Zapiski oficera armii czerwonej "(Notes of a Red Army officer), there are stories in it that are funy and horible in the same time, for example: the main hero->Soviet lieutenant shot a Polish man on a train in occupied Poland because he thought he was tampering with the fuse of an artillery shell in attempt to kill people inside the train, on a Police station a NKVD colonel slaped him into face and then explained to him that the dead man had with him a thermos of tea not an artillery shell and then this NKVD colonel explained to him that this type of actions make Red Army look bad. On the way home back from the Police station the Soviet leutnant was very proud of himself that so high rank officer slapped him into his face to teach him(and that shows how good inside into typical Red Army officer head Sergiusz Piasecki got).
