As a Pole, I had geography as a separate subject in both primary and high school... 7 or 8 years... And from what I remember, only the worst students who later had problems getting into high school had such problems with naming countries in the first year of learning geography...

You can not use math, physics or chemistry in your life at all and be a professional professionally... But our species lives on only one planet, so when you answer about the country (like many Americans do)"Africa", then in this answer most of the people of this planet see ignorance that they generally consider as good indicator of low intelligence(and for most people of this planet this is corect). Additionally, you completely ignore the fact that America has a special visa for geniuses and many companies that employ mainly very intelligent people have staff, most of which are not US educated... Visit Silicon Valley and you will be surprised how difficult it will be to meet someone who graduated from one of those American schools where geography is mostly ignored and instead people are educated in stuff that are for Europeans simply bizzare subjects to have them in highschool as a separate subject.

I know Polish person that can speak German, considered that she finished Medicine i expect that she also learned Latin but i know that she learned how to speak in Esperanto and according to google "there are approximately two million speakers of the Esperanto language worldwide.".
