@Whydoyouneedtoknow776 " I assumed the air pressure would be spread evenly around the object but thanks for the hard numbers" There is this thing called gravity and it is why that huge pressure is present at the bottom of the ocean... So why exactly you are assuming that in the laboratory there is no gravity/laws of physics do not work? And they were testing it against water so obviously they did not used air and even with air there will be a massof this air so there is no way to not have different pressure in different parts especialy when the air pressure is few hundereds of atm.
