@fieldmarshalbaltimore1329 " I can't think of a real life situation" i would call that a lack of imagination... You trying to cross some lake/river with ice on top of it but the ice is breaking under you and after you leaving the water you care much more about the fact that you are freazing to death than the fact that your gun is full of water and its gonna be frozen in no time. And no you do not need to wait for that to be the case a whole night(like some people here sugesting), there are videos on YT where someone is trying to pure kettle full of boiling water on the ground and the water is frozen half the way to the ground...
