@johnwedzicha During WW2 in Poland 90% of them was not able to speak Polish(even some famous poets that was born here and lived here whole life did not care to learn Polish...), on top of that Yiddish Language is part of Germanic family. So it was not very hard to recognize them, even the smal % that was able to speak got very characteristic accent(but they were at least able to ask Polish people for help and Polish undergound was able to give them fake papers so they could pretend that they are Polish...
