The stuff that they could export and sell in the west for real money was expensive... and stuff that was not an export material was cheap. The same in Poland they were selling food so hard to the west that they were giving special papers that was allowing you to buy exact ammount of meat cheap and no more -> because they were selling it to the west for $ and DM.

So i would say they are catholic/central European -> and Jews got safe heaven in Poland(they were calling Poland second promised land for centuries before Germans came and did what Germans do -> i am talking here about Prussians that you were happy to decimate them and then kill any sign of Prussian culture including the names in Prussia that were changed to German just before you were kicked out from that Slavic land. Even German capital city is not Germanic-> Germania-Slavica as you call it -> Name Berlin have east Slavic origin(Polabian to be exact) -> its made from the word "Swamp" -> So kinda understandable why Germans made a capital city out of it...🤣
