"Germans never knew it even existed." Maroszek saw small German unit in Warsaw with his guns so...
49
"When they found him the guy said "I can't even kill myself right!"". Its because most of people want to live even "suicide" guys (Subconsciously he saved his own life).
46
100% correct considering that Soviet military was all about policing its own citizens... not fighting with any real external enemy.
38
I think you dont get one think: they were clearly unable to read word "German" or "Mauser" so is highly unlikely that they knowed anything about German guns quality or accuracy. They trying to mimik look of good guns thats all.
37
Maxim gun is from 1884 and it was the first recoil-operated machine gun and it was also water cooled...
37
It is clearly for road checkpoint, you taking papers in one hand and the gun is in the other hand, and fact that it is automatic wepond is huge advantage when you trying to stop a car...
36
@Armored_Muskrat Made in USA was a sign of quality in the past but not anymore...
34
"PTRD was developed few years before the war" no it was not, only way you can say that it was developed few years before war is when you notice it is using scaled up Polish Wz. 35 anti-tank rifle locking mechanizm and Soviets was able to put hands on it because in semptember 1939 they attacked Poland hand in hand with Germans thats why they were able to "develop" it so fast!
33
@Cien_Swiatla Farmer in communist Poland was not as bad job as you think as Stalin was scaried to take land from private hands of Polish farmers/owners (and this video is also kinda explaining why Stalin was not wrong). Generaly farmers in Poland were never woried that they lack any type of food when people in cities were strugling to get meat or other stuff and often buying food from farmers for good money on the "black market". In the same time created by state and owned by them farms were all the time inefficient and on the edge of bankruptcy and government was constantly pouring money into them to prevent that.
33
@Artur-vh3nk Rifle according to Polish sources was able to pen 33m at 100m distance and 15mm at 300m distance, for testing this plates were angled at 30 deg. In 1939 that rifle could penetrate armor of all German tanks including the ones that they got during invasion of Czechoslovakia and they were made by Škoda -> PzKpfw 35(t) (LT vz. 35) -> the best armored plate of that tank was the front armor of 25mm thicknes and at 30 deg angle so this rifle should be able to deal with it from 100-125m distance. Side armor of this tank was only 15mm, so this rifle would penetrate even from 300m range. But most of German tanks got 20mm or less of armor for protection... That small round was also very effective when it landed betwen tank turret and main body as it was able to damage the turret ring and by doing so eliminate this tank main weapon.
31
There is a Polish joke that i gonna most likely butcher with my translation: Two Germans saw an ice cream truck and wanted to get some ice-cream. One took a single ball. The other one got from automatic.
31
@bobross4886 "Unforgiven" made by Clint Eastwood and in it you have: Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman and Richard Harris. Very good western.
28
@jfangm Yep, there are interviews with German leader few years before the war and he was in it explaining that his version of socialism is the superior version to the one in Soviet Union. Not to mention the victory parade that they made in 23 september 1939 in the middle of Poland->Brest(Brześć), there are pictures and videos from it and they were BFF at that time. That was also the place where first conference betwen NKVD and Gestapo was organized to plan the future of anty Polish actions on Polish territory in full cooperation... 27 September 1939 in Brześć October 1939 in Lwów November 1939 in Przemyśl 6–7 December 1939 in Kraków 8–9 December 1939 in Zakopane 20 February 1940 in Zakopane March 1940 in Kraków And it is not hard to tell who got much more experience at that time and who was teaching who there...
27
@andreambuter6806 "Accuracy still matters" This projectile in the Polish version created a plug of armoured steel that entered the tank with enormous energy... and such an armoured plug ricocheting inside the armoured can without any problem after bouncing off the inner side of the armour, perforated people, equipment and ammunition stored in the tank and of course the fuel tank. Additionally, there was nothing to prevent the entire magazine being inserted like that into the tank... It is also worth noting that the interior of German tanks did not have much free space inside and the crew was packed inside 1939 era tanks like sardines.
26
"In its unique approach to the problem." yea it is called in the free world "lie to the very end"... even only few years before USSR colapse this crapy system was promoted as the best by propaganda similar to the one that you provided here. Something so simple as bicycle was only a dream for most of the citizens when this country was producing millions of weponds similar to the one that we can see in the video so the Red Army can spread the comunistic revolution to all the countries where people was dreaming about cars as they was able to buy a bike... Golden Age for USSR was after WW2 when stealing from Central Europe started but it could not last forever. Even war reparation from Germany to Poland(the most destroyed country during that war) were stolen by "noble" USSR... that btw started this war hand by hand with Germany. Poland in sep 1939 was attacked by Germany and USSR not to mention that they agreed before the war started that USSR gonna end up with over 51% of the Polish territory!
26
@badlandskid and balance as the magazine is on that side so the barrel is closer to the center of the mass... bayonet mounted from the side also would move center of the mass to this side.
23
@NailKingTJ With that logic every submachine gun should be using subsonic ammo... as it have less recoil and any gun with that ammo will be more accurate. Also "9×19mm Parabellum" have nothing to do with "not subsonic", you just using less propellant and making your ammo silent but much weaker. So in your theory you need crapy ammo for this crapy gun and in the end its somehow decent combination? heh
22
@randomnobodovsky3692 Because Ian is able to see the product and what is inside on top of it he is also an expert in the field so he can tell if the designer was taking inspiration and from what... From your comment for example one can tell that you did not watch the video or reading/hearing with understanding is just not your thing...
21
@anzaca1 People just can't imagine how big number the million is and that is the only reason why would anyone believe that you can shot 5 million rounds in "over a week" from a single MG. There are "only" 8*24*60*60=691 200 seconds in 8 days... so imagine loading belts for 8 days with no brake and be able to load over 7 rounds into belt every second for full 8 days. heh Not to mention that not all parts are cooled by the water and you can not clean anything for over a weak of constant shooting...
19
"In the early 20th century, they were also known as sun cheaters (cheaters then being an American slang term for glasses)" "In 1913, Crookes lenses were introduced, made from glass containing cerium, which block ultraviolet light."
18
@ClannerJake This type of cans was also used in Poland and for people that got access to them they were good source of decent can openers(but not like the one presented in the video) as the civilian "socialist" can openers were often dull or broken before you finished opening the first can of food with it(and that was typical quality of civilian products in "proletariat heavens")... ;)
18
"the war he stopped working " it was more like he was not allowed to continue his work. Soviet didnt want to produce ViS in Radom or Maroszek rifle or anything from non-communist pre WW2 Poland. Whole propaganda was all about "everything before was bad and all good things can come only from Soviet Union"...
17
@GaiusCaligula234 Ekhm, Poland got the best trained population... teens were taking part in paramilitary organizations for few years then everyone was geting long proper military training -> that is one of the reasons why Polish underground was so big and effective. My grand-grandfather came back from WW1 with his Russian rifle and no-one ever disarmed him... ;)
17
Or maybe armies got exact ammo for army firearms, some of this malfunctions looks to me like they were caused by ammo that simply did not have enoght power to cycle the gun(or the projectile was too light)...
13
@Winterydee "They were then "liberated" by force from Nazi Germany by the USSR... but the USSR just forgot to allow they people of those nations select their choice of governmental systems. " Before Germany attacked USSR most of the killing done in Poland was on Soviet side, they killed almost every police and army officer and started mass killing and deporting people to Siberia(most of that people died in transport, from cold or from hunger). In September 1939 over 50,000 Red Army soldiers desertered on Polish side and wanted to join Polish Army to fight in it and free world from Bolsheviks... Stalin via Comintern ordered to communists in Germany to not vote for Adolf oposition so it was kinda obvious that they will be voting for Adolf socialistic party and that is the only reason why he was elected as the leader of Germany via legal and democratical election... Just look at State Emblem of the Soviet Union... official goal was allways to conquer whole planet!
13
Its safety lever so it is Odbezpieczony(unsecured) and Zabezpieczony(secured). You can say fire/ogień if u giving command to open fire on enemy. Puting "ogień/fire" on safty is retarder, you can put it on trigger not on safety lever...
12
@Tombrosapien Some people have nice high IQ other have only nice height... ;)
12
90+% of history is about "conspiracy", some failed and some ended successfully. But modern media will gona brain wash you into thinking that believing in "conspiracy theory" is like believing that earth is flat. Kennedy was against war in Vietnam so he needed to go... shit tons of money was earned on that war but not by people that "stopped paying attention to the conspiracy theories".
12
and based os someone else work(you forgot to add), locking mechanizm is a rip-off from Polish Wz. 35 anti-tank rifle... That in Italian manual made after they Italians tested them got up to 50mm of penetration (rifle much smaller and not so heavy).
12
Germanic language and Slavic are from indo-european family. Finnish is not. But yea you are from master race so u can not know anything in the topic and comment from high horse on it.

118 lbs (53.5 kg)(empty)

"A Swiss gun that isn't massively overengineered" Swiss part was allready pointed as false statment now someone should point that "isn't massively overengineered" isnt true as well... "The Polsten was a Polish development of the 20 mm Oerlikon gun. The Polsten was designed to be simpler and much cheaper to build than the Oerlikon, without reducing effectiveness. ...Oerlikon cannon which was made out of 250 parts, the Polsten was made out of 119 parts, without sacrificing the effectiveness or the reliability of the cannon."
10
"another the 473 reasons this is a bad idea" i think you confusing it with an automatic revolver -> gun that have limited magazine size just like standard revolver but without standard revolver reliability...
10
@ScottKenny1978 http://www.magnum-x.pl/artykul/ktokolwiekwidzialktokolwiekwie In this Polish article they are saying that only 3 are known to exist, no. 103, 105 and 107 and here in the video he have number 108... and other gun in this article is TE. TAR N. 11 made by st. ogn. Teofil Tarnowski(older artilery sergeant) this submachine pistol came to Poland from London so most likely this N. 11 was this guy next gun after that 10 "TARN" pistols.
9
nah, most likely you would end up with stick in one hand and rock in other. :P
8
Reason for the first part of that comment is so the second one would look as ridiculous? USA was not even our ally in september 1939. French and Brits betrayed Czechoslovakia then us then at the end of WWII again us. "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me".
8
Before WW2 started Maroszek designed version that was using Browning wz. 1928 magazines.
8
@mateuszwisniewski3877 Yes they were phased-out because they were suposed to be carried in vehicles but there was accidents with them firing on its own after they were droped or similary mistreated. He most likely confused this wepond with PM-84 Glauberyt...

@dougthealligator There was no such country... bud! USSR allowed Adolf party to win the elections as they prohibited German communists via comintern in Moscow to vote for Adolf oposition. That was the only reason Adolf won. Not to mention that they lost in that war few times more soldiers than the guys that lost the war and stuff like: "The Kama tank school (German: Panzerschule Kama) was a secret training school for tank commanders operated by the German Reichswehr near Kazan, Soviet Union. It operated from 1929 to 1933. The school was established in order to allow the German military to circumvent the military restrictions on tank research spelled out in the Treaty of Versailles. Apart from Kama, for the same reason Germany also operated the Lipetsk fighter-pilot school (1926–33) and a gas warfare facility, Gas-Testgelände Tomka (1928–31)"

In Poland there is this proverb that "hungry man always thinking about bread"... ;)

@BloPsyy "6.5 Arisaka was maybe designated as rifle cartridge, but it was no where near all other standard rifle cartridges at the time of WW1." One fact do not change the other fact... that is just your mental gymnastic to prove that you are not wrong and in the topic of logic your point is so weak that you were forced to use personal attack on Urst and anyone that was not fooled by your silly comment. And yes it is silly, with the same flawed type od logic i can claim that 6.5mm Arisaka is not a cartridge because some people nowdays use it as a paperweight.... 6.5mm Arisaka was smaller because avg Japanese soldier was significantly smaller than avg. European or American soldier. and btw. you can always use internet to google the topic you are planing to talk about: "Early intermediate cartridges to see service were the German 7.92×33mm Kurz used in the StG 44 and the .30 Carbine used in the American M2 select fire carbine during the late years and closing days of World War II." That is what we can read in article about intermediate cartridge... You can also easly find very extensive article on wikipedia about 6.5mm Arisaka and guess what? Word "intermediate" is not present in it even once! 6.5mm Arisaka: 2,666 J, 7.92×33mm Kurz: 1,886 J and 1,909 J, .30 Carbine: 1,311 J. So 6.5mm Arisaka is is literally twice as powerful as the cartridge that is credited as America's first intermediate cartridge. The only question is do you have the brain and back spine to finaly admit that you were wrong...

There is propably more than million of "forgoten weponds" if u take into consideration that not all are firearms...

@Prowbar "Pb is only slightly soluble in liquid or solid steel. When added , Pb does not remain in the metal but it remains separate from and mechanically dispersed in the steel as submicroscopic metallic inclusions when it solidifies. It does not change the mechanical properties of the steel appreciably. The sole function of Pb is to improve the machinability of steel. This accounts for the wide use of Pb for high strength steel for which machinability is required. Also, Pb only slightly influences mechanical properties of steel. However, with the growing consciousness of environmental issues in recent years, there is a tendency toward eliminating Pb because it is seen to be one of the pollutants of the environment."

"11,500rd sample was just one day out of literally over 2 decades of shooting many different types of assault rifles around the world." AK 47 was made for poorly educated people, but not for poorly educated people that love to waste resources for no good reason. No soldier using ak-47 got 11,500rd with him in his backpack. If you need to fire so many rounds in combat situation then u gonna use some heavy machine gun for it...
6
Samuel Prince Using "faux intellectual" in this conversation kinda makes you one. :P And the whole "joke" here is so small that you can't blame people for not seeing it. Not to mention that most people have no idea how much $20 back then was worthed so giving that information under this video and this comment is not silly if you actualy want to learn something. But for so many people learning is a pain and they just run awey from it... You both should move to Africa plenty of people there that have similar mindset like you two.
6
" the rich rape them" to much bolshevik propaganda in your head?
6
@giovannicorbarigasparini5352 "One could say he lacked.... Forsyth." onr could say that people lack of knowledge and imagination and that is why they do not understant how much work and money you would need to spend on stuff in 1815 that were in the same time cheap and easy to make 100 years later... There was no modern day mass production in 1815 to produce something like for example millions of brass casings for whole french army.
6
"Actually it was better than the Sten & out did it in Performance" because oryginal Stens was so crapy made... even Polish copies made by Polish underground was out performing "oryginal" Sten...
5
Requirement of working model would make it very hard to submit any patent for small company or individual person before some big company would be able to steal it from you as small company or private person would need to order parts for his invention from other companies... and big companies just spaming patents on everything they can. Apple is the best example when they sued Samsung for rounded corners on Samsung devices... and Samsung lost(that is the biggest joke of US law/patent system). Not to mention that most patents now are not for whole device just some smal part, so how would you provide working model for some improvement in for example cannon mechanism?
