@Terminator484 Where did you get the idea that the cars that were replaced by Ford-T were using non-rechargable batteries? This is as silly idea as it gets... TAXI's were using it... so how much was the cost of a TAXI drive 120 years ago? LoL And how they managed to win with horse powered cab?! Normal lead–acid battery were used! Just like in good old Melex cars.

@rosewhite--- "My Malaysian friend showed me the cleaver traditional given to daughters getting married." Now you need to find a friend that gonna show you how to use google before you write a comment... Ford was advertising model T with claims that he is using vanadium steel in every part that require strenght and on his promotional material he is showing Ford T crankshaft as an example of part made from Vanadium Steel... And i am shure that you need to do some machining on a crankshaft and according to you that would be for what ever reason imposible. Henry Ford was doing its own steel and got plenty of experience in this field. And if cutting edge on a knife do not need sharpening for a long time then most likely cutting edge have a wide angle and that is why it is not prone to losing the sharp edge/rolling.

"were non-polluting " that is why so many scientists back then were scaried that because of the massive city growth cities gonna drown in this "exhaust" -> in XIX century horse droppings were the equivalent of modern CO2 dooms-day predictions... Scientists were claiming that in 1950 the amount of the "friendly droppings" will be on the streets reaching second flor windows and there will be no chance to remove it because of its volume.

@pdr_2703 12HP for very a short time... far from Ford-T...

@pleasedontwatchthese9593 Horse producing zero power on idle... 1HP was calculated for constant work but its in fact slighty more(like 20% more) and that 12hp is usable in short periods from time to time. Generaly if u often abusing this power -> like for example horses used for pulling trees/wood in mountain areas -> then this horse gonna have a very short life...

@Wingedmechanic "collision avoidance systems "Are you sure about that? Ever heard of Marie Curie husband? Plenty of people were ending up dead every year because of horse related accidents back then.

@CreeperOnYourHouse "Also, that's exactly what I said. Not reliable, just fixable." considering the context your whole opinion have very little sense... The car was known to serve and drive for decades -> well designed, easy to replace parts that needs to be replaced -> well designed car. I gonna make an educated gues that you are talking about engines that someone wanted to "fix"->"tweak" to get more out of it thx to modern fuel and modern parts that he added to it/replaced less efficient parts -> that is saying absolutly nothing about "not reliable" design when you changing critical parts of that design and this changes are the main cause of the issue... There is also the fact that Ford-T was not designed for modern road and modern speeds, back then people were not abusing it and this 2 gears forward was not as big problem then as they would be now->today you need to push that engine to the limit to get as much RPM as posible. And that high RPM is the best way to cause creation of the oil foam that gonna reduce oil lubricating ability and heat transfer ability->both super important when you are pushing you engine to the limit...

Sound like less than a decade of progress if you comparing it to the computer procesors inductry... Ford-T also replaced electric cars as the most popular type of car and nowdays we are thinking hard about going back to them and replacing internal combustion cars with electric cars-> so are we moved "a long way" or are we making a circle here?!

@bobvido9875 But maybe you can google the history of ABS before you write a comment about it?! British Jensen FF was first road car that came with ABS... and they did not invented the idea.

@xorgbeep "life would be a nightmare with a model t for most people." you know the guy have "lenin" in his nick and in Lenins time life was a nightmare for most of "his" people -> It was called "red terror" for a reason. At the start he organised a civil war and 5 to 10 millions of Russian citizens died in that war -> more than Germans in WW2 and this civil war was only the beggining... In USA when Ford-T was produced an avg worker could buy that car after few years of work and in Lenins communist heaven people could only dream about owning a bicycle. They started production of Ford A knock-off in USSR but that was not for everyone just for the "more equal than others" people.

Your comparison have zero sense... And yes in modern engineering they going back to the less parts = more reliability as the idea to make it more complicated but more efficient did not worked so well -> For example go and watch some video with Elon Musk showing development of his rator engines -> the younger the design the fewer parts it is having. The same is known for decades in for example helicopter engines, modern helicopter engine have few times less mechanical parts than stuff designed few decades ago.
