And as a result, no one can repeat it now... it would be even more telling that the program was resumed by Bush Jr. so long ago that most of the commentators here do not know who he is, and yet nothing is ready for the next mission(apparently 400,000 and only thieves who took everything home from work... 🤣). This layaout of landing gear sucks -> but you can't even suggest that, because 400,000 people worked hard on it at a time when computers were so powerful that it would have taken them months or even years to count everything that happened during the landing in a few minutes.

" he was there looking out the window" haha, yout theory literally failed at the launch platform with this...😅 You have a camera but you have never seen photos of this vehicle that you have such an idea that you could look there through the windshield during flight?🙃

All vehicles used to test/learn ground landings crashed -> and in them the pilot had quite good visibility and recognizable objects around him to assess the distance/speed of movement(contrary to lander where he was surounded by walls and facing wrong direction(space)). So Mark 1 eyeballs proved beyond any doubt to suck big time... These stories are all the more credible the less you know and the less you analyze, and the worst thing is that, as can be seen from the last example, modern designers fanatically imitate this old layout thinking that "it worked so well a few decades ago"->If they revealed the truth there would probably be a backup system in case of a hard landing...

@DavidEsp1 There was no trained response... all trainers that were build crashed instantly when pilots were trying to control it... this training was considered too dangerous and the program was stopped before anyone managed to learn anything... additionally, this trainer was made so that it was easier to look around in it (and there were objects on the ground whose size the pilot knew, so he could use them to assess the distance and speed of movement).

@JoeZUGOOLA "seems less BS to me" only if you were not interested in the subject and did not know that all the trainers crashed within seconds when the pilot tried to control the flight (and on the earth he had better visibility and objects whose size he knew so he could use them to estimate the distance/speed of movement).

@MattH-wg7ou "the contrast between the design of the truck and the U2, or even fighters of the day, is pretty stark as well." Yesterday I saw a photo from Beijing during the Vietnam War, showing four U2s that failed -> so i suspect it failed against Chinese air defense -> a country where at that time the most popular means of transport in the countryside had four hooves... Over the USSR the same, U2 had a system that was supposed to ensure it would fall apart so there would be no evidence... not only did it not work but the Soviets copied spy technology from it and used e.g. special kodak film for their space projects -> the hidden side of the moon was photographed by the Soviets first -> with American film...
