@Jay_in_Japan They are, but China is also making way more of a effort in going greener then the US is.

@jonathanbuzzard1376 Not really, applying it to one country is one thing. Alternative suppliers are available, and we have a causus belli for our conflict with Russia so OPEC might dislike it but I doubt that they'll act. If we try to do anything against member countries they'll cut production to essentially zero like during the Arab oil embargoes... It might not be sustainable in the long run, but it's a severe enough punishment that the west won't touch them...

@MrReachashish The US is worst in class here... It's Europe that's making an effort there, and some individual US states... The rest of the US is horrible when it comes to environmentalism...

@jonathanclemens3755 Invading Mexico or Venesuela would seriously hurt the US. Because like it or not the US economy can't exist anymore without trade with the rest of the world. As for it taking weeks to bring the shale oil back into production, that's just wishful thinking... Months... Maybe...

@LautaroTessi California is a state where Democrats don't compete with republicans but with other left wing politicans...

@randar1969 Russia has limited capability to make gas ready for transportation on ships, that can't be ramped up quickly. Those insurance companies you're talking about won't do the job because if a ship sank they'd not just go bankrupt, they'd fail to pay out the insurance...

@jerrysamson9168 Turkey is one of many nations that likes to play major powers up against each other. In this case Russia vs NATO, playing both horses so to speak.
1
@jerrysamson9168 Also, Russia and the Turks are historical rivals even if they may cooperate at times.

@jerrysamson9168 Because whatever alt right YouTube channels you like to frequent is oh so reliable...

@jerrysamson9168 Russia and Serbia are friends, Turkey in the other hand have a far more mixed relationship with Russia. Fundamentally Russia and Turkey have opposing geopolitical needs and have had so since the Turks conquered Constantinople. Prior to that it was the Byzantines and the Bulgars etc and various other nations of eastern Europe that had opposing needs.

@@latilong8676 You really think that the US is operating there to "loot" anything?
1
@@latilong8676 Yes, Taiwan is part of China, the rest of China isn't though. ;-) That's kind of the point. Taiwan has never been a part of the mainlands current regime, the current country there.

@RCXDerp Before brexit the UK absolutely dominated ship insurances if I don't remember wrong as well as a number of other shipping related financial services. Now... I'm not sure... I suspect that the Dutch or Germans probably have taken that role?
