  1. I don't think that's going to be a big problem. If that lower prices it'll make Europe more competitive, and that in turn will increase trade and lead to those channels being overloaded. A thriving Europe can handle providing work for both sides of the European waterways. As long as neither side becomes too greedy.

  2.  @zahvasile4446  Good grief, no. Federalization is a non option for Europe for many generations at least, if ever. Only a confederate model would be fair to the population of Europe.

  3.  @willemvanoranje5724  You're aware that when you make it harder to cross borders you actually end up with more migration (both legal and illegal) because staying in your homeland while working somewhere stops being a viable option, right? And immigration just isn't worth it for crap jobs like truck driving. It's not like the Netherlands is perfect and everyone wants to work there at all cost. Just look at the UK and their transportation woes...

Det er gode grunner til å være kritisk til enkelte aspekt ved EU, men det betyr ikke Nederland og andre stater som var med på å grunnlegge unionen ikke har fått langt flere goder ut av unionen enn negative effekter. Romania og Bulgaria kan bidra med billig arbeidskraft som mangler i dag i EU, som for eksempel lastebilsjåfører.

  5.  @willemvanoranje5724  As for the language, thank you. And likewise. ;-) I enjoy trying to make sense of Dutch and Frisean. It's fascinating, and it feels like I'm not doing too badly (although I may be deluding myself). Flemish makes zero sense to me though.

  7.  @gabykoynkuli5704  So what doesn't work? A confederate model? That's already what's used in the UN, Council of Europe, and the EU itself is a hybrid between a federal and confederal model.

  8.  @kevinboros7427  Well said. I'm not going to lie and say that their inclusion isn't going to lead to issues for member states, some that's scary. But overall it's still a net benefit for everyone involved.

While I'm a bit worried (the majority of homeless people and beggars here in Norway seem to be from Romania these days, and crime went up last time we had a schengen expansion) I still think including them is a good idea, and maybe the higher standard of living that this will create can reduce some of the current issues we have with their citizens and improve lives for everyone involved.

  10.  @Zdamaneta  We have our own travelers, two groups of them with two different languages (they arrived at different times). And it's not a matter of culture. The travelers have been discriminated in Romania for a long time. Indeed they used to be slaves there. This isn't about ethnic groups, it's about citizens of Romania functioning worse here then other ethnic groups because of structural issues within Romania. Don't get me wrong, I totally get that overcoming such issues isn't easy. Minorities who have faced discrimination are less likely to trust a government that has been used by the majority population for said discrimination then the majority population is. You see that all over the world. My black american ex girlfriend didn't exactly have much faith in the US government, education system or health care system, all of them historically used to discriminate minorities. Here in Norway the Sami people still distrust the government and the majority population despite our attempts to make amends, rectify previous harm etc. It's just going to take generations. For Romania that discriminated minority is the travelers. But travelers wish to see their children having a future just as much as the majority population does. Not at the cost of their values and cultural distinctiveness, but never the less. I've had travelers as neighbours before. And they're overrepresented in our music industry, just like the black population in America is. There's two traveler populations native to Norway, one that arrived much earlier and that's more integrated into Norwegian society, and one that arrived centuries later. They have different languages, both recognized by the Norwegian government. Romani and Romanes.(Yes, those two words are used interchangeably for the language of the travelers in some countries, but since we have two populations and one uses one name and the others the other name for the language that just works best for us, names for the ethnic groups themselves us a bit more complicated as there's no consensus about what's the best name, although most of the older group seems to prefer travelers, and most of the later group "Sigøyner". There's also a third traveling people here not considered a part of either ethnic group.
