Why do people in large countries like the US and Russia always think big countries are better? Oo If you look at the combined impact of the nordic region it's not really worse because we're smaller countries. Each individual country might have a smaller impact. But because we're smaller we're also able to run each country better, so as long as the effect of each of us don't counteract one of the others and we actually are pulling in the same direction our total impact is actually bigger. As an example of how controlling things locally can improve efficiency, look at the education system in Finland. Unlike the US they control the education system at a municipality level with well educated and relatively independent teachers, as a result they can customize their approach to a higher degree for the individual students. Likewise look at the democratic process or pretty much anything else involving governance. Honestly this is the one thing I agree with the Republicans about... Anyway, the impact of the Nordic region would probably have been smaller in my view if we where united in something like the Kalmar union. Sure we could have played a part as a major power in battlefields but our economic output, administrative efficiency, education, technology, and democracy itself would probably all have suffered in my view.

Depends on what Baltic country we're talking about from what I've heard. And honestly the Baltic region would probably not have been that great a place to live even if Sweden remained powerful. Russia still have a lot of people and resources. Sooner or later they'd fight another war in that exact region...
