+inquisitor Regarding NAV, it's not so much a lack of money that's the issue as too much rules and bureaucracy. Yes, reducing the number of rules and the amount of bureaucracy might lead to more money going to people who don't need it, but you'd also cut down on a lot of cost and reduce the chance of people who do genuinely need the help going without the resources they need... As for the rest of the things you said... Jeez...

+jeremy It's neither capitalist nor socialist... List most countries in the world it has a mixed economy. It's possible to argue the topic for ages and ages but at the end of the line people trying to argue that it's "basically capitalist" or "basically socialist" both fall short. It's not "basically" either of those. It's mixed with our own blend of what we thing works and what doesn't. And trust me, there's a lot of pitfalls in actual capitalism that we're doing our best to try to avoid... And all in all I don't think we're doing too bad a job. Even though there's most definitively also room for improvements...

+JJSmith Lago Eh, that's debatable. While while most norwegian labor is quite expensive our engineers are quite competitive. Did you know that Norway is rather big in things like communication satellites and ground based support for various satellites? NASA actually purchase a lot of components and services from Norway. Also, did you know that a huge part of the development of the Mali GPU used on ARM chips are done in Norway? As well as a whole bunch of other things happening in Norway. As for Sweden, well, they're together with Switzerland one of the only two countries in Europe that's truly rivaling the US in patents pr citizen. And that's just a couple of examples... The Nordic region in general, and Sweden in particular is contributing a lot to the world.

+SummerOfPete We also have fairly low corporate tax in Norway and we're not alone in having a value add tax... The idea is that big companies are taxed in a way they can't avoid by taxing their employees and supporting those employees in their negotiations for salaries from the companies instead of trying to tax the companies directly. Tax systems are complicated. And while we certainly don't have the lowest tax pressure out there Norway isn't all that far above average in terms of taxation of the population as a whole in terms of income pr citizen if you exclude the tax on the oil companies in most estimates. It's only a little higher then the US taxes. Of course it's not as noticeable in the US as they has a different tax system where companies are taxed more directly. Now the question of if the tax system is fair and/or if individual groups are taxed excessively or not, is another issue entirely. Personally I'm inclined to support a moderate tax increase, although nothing as extreme as what "Red" want us to have... (Red is the most far left political party that has made it into the parliament in recent years, they don't manage to get representatives in every election, sometimes they're not in the parliament at all)

3:46 It's not so much that it's cheaper to buy electric cars in Norway then in the US. It's more that it's way, way more expensive to buy non-electric here then in the US. I mean, if you're essentially paying 2x the cars price in Norway if it's not electric... (if you add everything up)
