 @BaghNakh1 Paper ballots or not, it's still voter suppression. Anything that makes it harder to vote, no matter how trivial it might seem is voter suppression...

 @forbidden-cyrillic-handle Yes, a voter id is voter suppression too. Thankfully in my country that's really easy to get though and everyone has it, often online if nothing else...

@tohaason It's not just about providing who you are. Compare a system where you can just show up with your bank card or drivers license (our old system) vs needing a national ID card or passport (new system in my country, although there's thankfully online alternatives). It just makes things harder. Also, a ID shouldn't be needed. Imagine instead a system where people each get a proof specific for the vote up front automatically that they hand in for the election (something we use as well, and part of why just using a bank card used to work). No effort required other then checking your mail and bringing the letter when going voting. See the difference? Even if you've never made the effort to get a passport a citizen would still be in the system and get a voting paper in the mail.
