0:26 That's the steepest?!? We have way more of these, and I think we have a few that's steeper, although it's hard to tell from just the video... Lots of streets have to be closed down for car traffic in winter as it's simply not safe to drive on them in winter. They're illegal to make now.

Texas is roughly the same size as Ukraine, slightly bigger, and of course far smaller then the European part of Russia. France is bigger then California. 10 of Europes countries have more then 300 000 km^2 of land area. Only 5 US states does. So thinking that European countries are small is just a mistake... 5:38 Like I said, France is bigger then California... 6:30 Also, Europe has about 50 countries with land area within the continent. Of course some of them have capitals outside of Europe and are therefore by definition not European. And some are not recognized by everyone etc...

@poljenol6868 You're still not making sense with your sentences... I can't read your mind on what you're trying to convey... It's not just your arguments that's missing, it's the sentences themselves... But the reply below is a reply to my best guess of what you're trying to convey... Smaller cars are cheaper to produce. It's the bigger ones that's being propped up by taxation in the US. The profit margin might be smaller, but the overall cost of getting from no car to a car with any given set of features is still lower with a small car then a big one. Even if those features may be a bigger percentage of the total cost.

Apparently we have tornadoes in Norway... F2 is the highest ever recorded, but multiple F0 and F1s pr year apparently in warm summers. (I don't think that we had any in the past, but the climate is getting warmer).

In Norway it costs between 3 000 and 3 500 USD worth on average from what I understand to get a drivers license. It includes first aid, driving in the dark, on slippery roads, ice, cities, rural driving on single lane two way roads with passing pockets, tests of reaction times in case of animals or humans entering the road suddenly without warning while driving on slippery roads etc. Of course stick driving. And did I mention that speeding 12 mph over the speed limit in some cases can land you in jail and cost you your license?

Regarding the language, the British isles is the one of the holdouts of the Celtic language family. Celtic used to be spoken from Turkey in the east to Ireland in the west and in much of Spain and all up to Belgium during their heyday. Now you'll only see it in a few areas in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and in Breton in France I believe. Everywhere else the languages have died. Especially the Romans worked hard to destroy the Celtic cultures. While I can't say 100% that it's Celtic it's the most likely explanation.

10:44 Not sure about Germany. But here in Norway you can be caught speeding even if there's no speed limit sign telling you to slow down, because of common sense laws like the one above in the video. Even if there's no sign showing you that something is urban you're expected to understand that if there's houses in the area you're supposed to slow down. And you risk losing your license (think 3 000 USD to get it), get a huge fine, or even land in jail for speeding there. (12 miles pr hour faster then the speed limit is enough to land you in jail in some situations here, speed limit signs not required)

3:36 Those seats look uncomfortable. The busses here in Norway has seats with a cover that's softer and more "fluffy" (in the lack of a better word). (My English might not be good enough to explain what I mean). The biggest busses here in my home city is Van Hool Exqui.City 24 CNG Hybrid i believe. While all new busses are 100% electric like the Volvo 7900. From what I understand 63% of our busses runs on biologically created natural gas (meaning that it has been newly created rather then being fossil fuel), 35 busses are 100% electric, the rest are biodiesel/electric hybrid busses. 100% of the busses should therefore in theory be carbon neutral once built, and since all new busses will be electric from now on their impact on the air quality should also improve. End of video edit: Regarding the pedals. Remember that Europe cares a lot about safety, so bigger break pedals makes sense, the gas pedal doesn't need to be as big, control over your slowing down is way more important then your speeding up.

80 000 pounds is just 36 metric tons according to a quick and dirty google conversation... I might of course be doing something wrong... Compare that to the limit in Sweden (74 metric tons) and Finland (76 metric tons) for trucks without any special permits... With a permit the limit in Finland is over 100 tons. Other countries have lower limits. In Norway it's 50 tons unless you get a permit for more.

In the past you'd cut down the trees with axes or later on when blacksmithing improved saws, then you'd use horses to pull 4-5 logs down to a creek or river. From there it's floated down ideally to a water powered sawmill, but at least a collection point for processing, before being exported out. The water powered sawmills and all of our rivers and creeks allowed Norway to be a much bigger timber exporter then the size of our forests would actually suggest. And our woods rebuilt London after city fires and for a number of other uses. (Probably including the Royal Navy too, although I don't know about that specifically).

So as you saw each European nation has its own model suited for local needs. As a result we've also been able to try out more different things to see what works or not. Don't get me wrong, sometimes things definitely don't work in Europe either, but usually we have a system across the border that does when ours doesn't, and we can hold our government accountable. In the US it's always possible to shift blame and the state next to you have a awfully similar model anyway for most things, so there's very little diversity in government structure. So you don't really see when something doesn't really work, because you don't really have better examples elsewhere that you can see in a lot of cases.

Georgia is a country with territory in both Europe and Asia, just like Turkey and Russia. I believe that their capital is in the Asian part though, so in the end it's probably considered a Asian country with territory in Europe. But culturally we have close ties to them since they where Christians for so long, they've been allying with Christians in a whole heap of wars. With the Byzantines, with Crusaders and with others. So they feel very western.

I'm a non-drinker, but I'd love to hear what you think about some Nordic beers (and other alcoholic drinks like the Norwegian akvavit/aquavit, a spirit made from potatoes in Norway since the 15th century. It's 30-40% alcohol apparently. So take it easy with it.

Well, regarding that Egypt comment. While yes, most of Egypt is in Africa, there's a small part that's actually in Asia, the Sinai peninsula. So I kind of get where that confusion might come from?

Regarding safety... Well, Norway has a population of about 5 million. In 2021 we had 87 people dying on the roads in total. 7 pedestrians and 2 bikers. Compare that with some US states with a population of about 5 million.

@roevhaal578 Regarding the road quality, it depends on where you are. There's a lot of focus on safety. But the country is big, and there's a hierarchy of responsibility for road maintenance. Main roads are funded nationally and are usually excellent. But there's definitely low priority roads in certain regions that's underfunded. Nothing dangerous. Safety features often has priority over potholes, and speed limits are low enough that low quality roads aren't dangerous to people (just cars). But yeah, we have the safest roads in the world, and a big part of that is the drivers (despite what these dashcams might make you think). Our main issue is actually foreign drivers.

Many of those "higher elevation" pictures could easily have been taken at sea level in the Scandinavian mountains. Especially the ones with a lot of humidity. Snow capped mountains at low elevation is normal here in Norway.

5:07 Higher speed limits would be a disaster in the US for a simple reason. You treat driving as a right rather then a privilege, and as a result you don't have high enough standards on driving education, regulation on car quality etc... Also, notice how Germany has 3,7 deaths or 100 000. Well, Norway had 1,8 deaths pr 100 000 in 2020... So less then half of what Germany has. And we have low speed limits and strict road laws.

Regarding things the US does better then Europe. Look into experiences disabled people have in the two countries. Europeans get more home aid stuff in general. But when it comes to public infrastructure there's way more of it that's built suitable for disabled people in the US then Europe in general (there's individual countries and organizations/companies that's exceptions). Also, regarding ambulances, you're way better in the US then in India... Road laws barely applies there...

First of all, I'm European, not American... Secondly, historical buildings has nothing to do with why the US is ahead of us. The reason there's a difference is that European laws in general doesn't actually carry any weight when it comes to accessibility for disabled people in most European countries, unclear wording and usually little to no mention of consequences. There are exceptions in Europe that shows that it can be done also among older buildings. And furthermore, we're failing to make new buildings accessible. In Europe accessibility is generally a afterthought rather then a primary design criteria.

@entropyshield We got some narrow roads here in Norway too and we do have mountains... It's a good thing. Although there's cases where they could have been better. For instance we recently had a bridge in the news because it's too narrow for cars to pass each other and you can't see anyone entering from the other side because of how high it is in the middle vs the ends, so now the neighbours are demanding traffic lights to avoid people fighting over who should back down.

Regarding parking, that differs a lot between countries. As for the police taking radar... We do have them in Norway, but it's usually a random inspection perhaps once or twice a year. Often reported on the news.
