  1. The main problem is a lack of existing planes. Sweden needs their own planes for their own defense, and there's been few planes purchased abroad that can be used. If you train someone to use the F16 there's so many more planes available out there for Ukraine to use. So even thought the Gripen quite frankly is a better actual fit for the tactical situation on the ground in Ukraine with it being designed for a setting with a enemy that contests the air and may damage airfields where being able to quickly take of and land on dispersed improvised airfields using a limited number of trained personell for the job and with a low operational cost the Gripen still ends up being less relevant, simply because there's so few of them. Also the F16 is in the process of being phased out and replaced by the F35 by many of the nations operating it, so giving those used planes to Ukraine instead of scrapping them or selling them to a poor country at a discount is a heck of a lot cheaper then giving them a relatively new plane that's still going to be used for many years and that would need to be replaced soon if given to Ukraine...
