More accurately, he has been saying what many people think they want to hear. A lot of politicians are particularly good at that and always have been. Just think of the democratically elected guy back in 1930s Germany.

@jonathanj.7344 People are starting to drift away from that but it will have little if any effect. What it could do is mean that all the BBC's assets get given away to some faceless member of the elite who will make a fortune from it. Perhaps people need to keep badgering the BBC to go back to how they used to be, mind you, as it is now run by accountants that is unlikely to happen as they stand to profit even more if it is sold off.

@mickg7299 He is just saying what people believe they want to hear. The truth is, many people will have to suffer initially if the world is to become a better place for all in the long term.

@jazura2 Two points there: Digital currency (ie cashless) will stop a lot of very dodgy businesses and the likes of the pikies getting rich as easily as they do now. As for 15 minute cities, most people have a totally incorrect idea of what they are about and to be honest it would be pretty difficult to turn many cities into one. That said, somewhere like Portsmouth was until relatively recently effectively one. When I first moved there 30 odd years ago, many of the people I worked with rarely left the city and more than a few thought it was a day out to visit the nearby town.

@jazura2 The end is nigh!

@patbuckley4039 It seems that you are all for the JSO lot and the animal rights nutters who vandalise supermarkets etc? They are standing up for what they see as their rights.

@Helios601 But he was a footballer and thus not one of the sharpest tools in the box (other than he knew he could make a lot of money from it).

@methods3110 With respect to the on line harms bill, I guess you would love your son or daughter to be bullied into taking their own life or that of another person? (Has happened too often).

@deefsound Only in the sense that he knows just what a certain number of people want to hear to make him "popular" ie to benefit him in one way or another. As far as I know, he has never tried to rid the world of Jews, even if that would make him very popular in some circles. Maggie was also good at saying what she knew enough people wanted to hear to get into power.

The golden rule of politics has always been "If they say anything then they are lying" Who remembers when Ted Heath promised to cut inflation at a stroke. Guess what, he was telling porkies.

@mickg7299 He was using simple terms so that many of the simple people who worship the ground this Sweat walks on might get the idea.

I wonder if this guy left the BBC before he was found out?
