Could it be the public "theory" is being put out so as not to scare a suspect away?

Given how fast the river is flowing (regardless of what the guy says) she would very likely be a long way down stream if she went in before they started to look for her. Cold water shock acts quite quickly. Had she been attacked there would be indications and would the people from her work not have been alerted as she was on the phone to them.

@joekerr6685 Sounds odd, but fair enough. It should still be possible to track the movements of the phone very accurately though and that should give a better understanding of what might have happened.

@joekerr6685 I just hope it is all resolved soon for the families sake. It seems a lot of people have immediately jumped on the foul play theory although the chances of it being that in the particular location are not that high to be honest, historically. The suggestion that someone attacking her would think to leave the phone on the bench, switched on sounds a little bid odd, but I guess it could be true. Given that she was supposedly quite fit & healthy, I would have thought she would have put up some type of a fight - probably dropping her phone which would have got muddy (has that been checked?). Sadly, I doubt we will ever get the full story.

@antonyjones4259 Other sources were suggesting that she would not have got into trouble if she fell in the water because she was fit etc. My Mrs probably looks petite but she is pretty tough and would not go down without a fight. One of the things that makes me wonder about an attack / abduction is the limited routes away from where she was and the number of other people likely to be around walking dogs or exercising. It was not a busy place but clearly not deserted due to the various witnesses. I just hope it is resolved soon.
