  1. We need to bring back the good old fashioned building societies owned by members just like there were in many small towns. Too many people were bought out by promises of rewards when they changed to banks in Maggie's day and soon after.

  2. The virtue signalling element is directly linked to money and the accountants running banks know that. If they perceive that being seen to do something "good" by a suitable number of their customers might attract more, then that is what they will do. It is down to the ignorance of the masses.
