I bought my first place (a tiny studio flat) when interest rates were over 10% when the rates dropped I was able to pay off a lot meaning when I came to sell I got a much bigger return.

@timlong4704 You mean like they did in Russia and China and even France?

@cleanhit777 I don't need to book holidays, just take them when I fancy.

@speedyhillski I do not owe money to anyone and a higher return on my pension pot can only be good. Mind you I am unlikely to live long enough to use it all up any way unless I go silly with my spending.

Capitalism plus greedy human nature really is not a good idea!

Some of us actually benefit from high interest rates and to be quite honest could not give a fig. Mind you, most of us lived through periods of inflation way above the current level and ridiculous interest rates. We survived and most of us have no mortgage and live pretty comfortably so why not grow a pair and get on with life!

@GeekyC Two things might happen, either it all collapses and there is a spell of anarchy (not very realistic or British) or, like has happened many times before there is a bit of suffering among certain quarters (sadly many of whom would be in poverty within a month of being given £3,000) and everything will bounce back. The prudent and hard working folk will be rewarded, just like has always happened.

@dogblackprincehoney No, they have been led into a terrible war by a bigger comedian than has ever run the UK.

@dervishozetem4731 Most people in the UK don't realise that we have had prices and interest rates far too low for far too long to be truly sustainable and now we are paying the price.

Not heard that one in years mind you it is just as well with the cost of dental treatment these days.
1
@joanramsey4002 You are paying the price for equality of treatment without the chance of equality of outcome.

@Annie-fz2gv And I am hoping that the tooth fairy will come when my teeth start to fall out.

@christianmungo2342 And make sure Starmer gets in.

@LL-sc8gb You could say that, but having lived through poverty and times when inflation and interest rates were somewhat higher than they are today and seen things sort themselves out in the long run I don't really care. As long as we don't go back to the stupidly low interest rates we were seeing we won't see this ridiculous see-saw effect.

@Annie-fz2gv You don't half know how to spoil things for a guy.
