The big problem with EV's is the ridiculous obsession with range (and performance) when most people really don't need to drive more than 20 miles a day and can rarely average much more than 40 mph. This is what makes them way too expensive for ordinary people and way too dependent on high tech. If we keep real cars with real engines for what they do best maybe the air in our cities might be a bit nicer to breathe and we would not be pouring money into dodgy foreign countries?

@tinfoilhomer909 Sounds like you want EVs in the countryside? I guess you are too young to remember when the milkman and Baker had EVs in most suburban areas. Where I grew up, the milky even used to come as far as our little group of cottages about a mile outside the village.

@easternrebel1061 I totally agree with you about not buying over-priced EVs and the fact that they are not as environmentally friendly as portrayed. It is possible however to produce much cheaper EVs that would be much better suited to most people's day to day use and much cheaper to run the conventional vehicles for that purpose. Citroen have played at it, and while the Ami is a bit niche it would not take much to make it much more realistic to most people and not cost a huge deal more. To put this into perspective, when I visited Jersey in the Channel Islands about 30 years ago, there were a lot of electric powered vans used for deliveries on the island, not for any "righteous" reasons but due to pure economics. Strangely they happened to be from a very forward-thinking French car company?
