It is us that now have money to spend on treats we went without when younger. Nothing has really changed except people have come to expect more and more for less and less.

@dabear5641 You seem to be moaning about the "old", most of whom have worked hard all their lives and saved their money by not wasting it on luxuries and unnecessary rubbish

It is our own greed that has driven up house prices and nothing more. The younger generations have very unrealistic expectations when it comes to their first house and you guys summed it up nicely by suggesting no one wants to buy an apartment/ flat. Before I moved to the south coast in 1987 my one bed starter home in Hertfordshire was 10 x my salary for quite a good job.

@SimonJ57 I was hearing something about the situation in Spain the other day where landlords are changing from long term residential letting to holiday let's as they can make more money in 6 months that way. In the UK I wonder if air b&b is doing something similar?

@baldieman64 There is a bit of truth in what you say, but in the UK the biggest driver for house prices is people not accepting they have to start at the bottom of the ladder. When you see a 3 bed semi advertised as an ideal starter home you realise where things have gone wrong.

@dabear5641 Your last sentence gives a very good clue as to why house prices go up so much.

@mehoyminoy1326 Do you think it realistic to want a 3 bed semi as your first home? That seemed to be what many of the younger lads thought when I was working. I started with a studio flat in a cheap area in early 80s and now have a small 3 bed semi (& a yacht that cost as much).

@BruhMoment-fr4zr Are you sure that is true or is it just what we are being led to believe?

My next shot won't miss Most current day "Americans" don't belong there, they are the rejects and economic migrants from Europe.

The real problem in the UK is that the younger generations love to have someone to blame for the problems they have got themselves into by their own greed.

@redheadsilver8041 A benevolent dictatorship or monarchy will always be better for most people than a corrupt democracy.

@MrReubenTishkoff Are we not due for a reset? We have become so greedy and selfish and entitled that it has to end soon.
1
@mehoyminoy1326 No, it is about unrealistic expectations.
1
@bloodmuffin123 Utter bollix, most immigrants can't afford to buy houses.

@meesteranonymous8177 I am more than happy with that, hence why I vote the way I do with no thoughts for the younger generations.

@dabear5641 Oh, looks like I touched a nerve! The problem is every generation thinks that they are better than the one before and have had it tougher. Did you grow up in a house without central heating and double glazing and only a coal fire in the living room? The loo was effectively outside although the door was in what might be called a conservatory these days. Mind you, I could not care less what you think as you seem so bitter that it cannot be healthy which probably accounts for all the mental health issues your generation seems to suffer. By the way, what is your pronoun? I would guess "it".
