@JohnJohnson-vd2hp The problem with America is not gun ownership but cultural. Just look at Switzerland for a country where a great many people have guns but the violent crime level is very low.

@JohnJohnson-vd2hp Nothing wrong with fair and just controls on gun ownership. Even up to the Hungerford incident, had the rules been followed and the police had done their jobs we would not have had any problems.

@redbeard3923 Do they do a double ended rabbit then?

The problem with the US is a cultural one far more than it is about widespread gun ownership. Put the two things together and you have trouble.

Very well said, but there are still a great many legally owned guns in the UK.

I can't really afford any more guns to be honest although I am struggling with not buying another one I have seen which t really lovely.

@JohnJohnson-vd2hp They are legal and you would be surprised how many people own them legally, however a lot of people think it is only the wealthy elite who have them, you know , people with two houses, large yachts and who drive 4x4s. Just realised those things describe me and I am way short of rich by any standards.

@JohnJohnson-vd2hp They are legal in the UK but most of the time the police won't let the bad guys have them.

@Twizzel100 Do you mean the paranoid nutters who seem to worship some of the equally daft you tubers?

@lesigh1749 Not sure if a red deer stag or a wild boar counts as a small animal? The other point is do you truly believe there is a need for guns for self defence in this country at present? Most of the worst violence where they might be justified happens between criminals and their associates.

I think you are rather over exaggerating the state of the UK.

@ChrisTurnbull-p3f The problem is that most gun owners are very decent people. If they cause too much trouble they stand to lose potentially several thousands of pounds worth of guns and associated equipment (maybe £10k in my case in new replacement value) as well as a hobby they love and is extremely rewarding. I took part in what was at the time supposed to have been the biggest protest march through London against the proposed changes to firearm laws after Dunblane but it did no good.

@bertrandrussell894 That disaster was caused by the police just like Hungerford before and Plymouth recently. The problem was the truth was hidden from the public and politicians love to be seen to do something.

@lesliewelch6551 Not really if you are an honest upstanding person.
