The French seem to be doing ok with wind farms, electricity is pretty cheap, so much so that the marinas don't charge for electricity whereas it is up to £5 a night in the UK. You can also see how cheap it is by the large amount of aluminium that is used for all sorts of things.

@manoo422 Now I know you must be from another planet!

The turbine blades could be made more durable fairly easily but currently there is no real incentive to do so. All the rest of the equipment can be easily recycled but better still should be made repairable and thus much longer lasting. Conventional power stations don't last forever either.

Maybe one solution regarding the wind turbines is to make the blades more durable. A good quality glass fibre sailing yacht will easily last 50 years so there is no reason that the blades cannot be made to last a long time with modern materials. They are already being overhauled in some cases anyway. The other thing with wind power is that some of the newer concepts have many advantages in certain applications.

@jimwoods9551 The blades could easily be made to last much longer if they wanted to. There might be a small trade off in terms of pure efficiency but that would be offset by other benefits.

You seem to be pointing out that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer - that is called capitalism. The alternative does away with the elites who steal our money at every opportunity and gives everyone a reasonable chance in life if they are prepared to do some useful work.

@manoo422 I guess you don't know much about renewable energy generation other than what you have heard on You Tube etc. Currently it is expensive because the competition is expensive and the people providing it are greedy. If Maggie had not sold off our utilities to her friends for pence who then sold them on for a huge profit we would have a much more efficient and cheaper energy supply.

@simonclare100 Why should it "break down" as it is not such a fantasy with the right approach? In the UK we are pretty dependent on foreign fossil fuels and our nuclear plants have been or are being sold off. I don't really want to be held to ransom by some petro-chem elites when we can at least provide some power for ourselves. What we really need is some of the many super clever university types to work on better and more efficient forms of renewable energy and means to store excess power (even little old uneducated me could do that if I actually cared to)

@joedee1863 Aluminium production requires huge amounts of electricity and although they obviously have a good source of the raw material ( including highly recyclable scrap) you still need a lot of electricity.
1
@joedee1863 I guess you use a lot of aluminium foil to make your protective hats! Get real and stop living in your Tik tok / twitter / you Tube fantasy land.

@changingplacestoiletfinder8061 Maggie just sold our electricity and gas networks to her mates for peanuts and when they had asset stripped them they sold them for a huge profit, often to foreign investors. I would have much preferred a subsidy.

@danquaylesitsspeltpotatoe8307 He is pretty good at making money for himself though from his followers.
