You have to remember that people don't like to be told what to do anymore, even if it is for your own good.

@stevensarson482 The problem is, if anyone told the kids to be careful these days the parents would be up in arms claiming "they" are trying to brainwash the kids or saying it was some kind of discrimination. The entitled generations have brought most of the problems that we grown ups have to suffer on themselves. From the traffic nightmare caused by the school run (how can you expect little 13 yo Chelsea to walk 1/2 a mile to school when we have mortgaged ourselves to the hilt to but a new SUV?) to the need for stricter speed limits.

@BraveNewUs Do you really think most drivers are that pathetic that they get stressed over something like that? If they do, then the human race is doomed.
2
@scaryfakevirus Touchy! As I indicated elsewhere today's generations would see sensible instruction on road safety (or any other type of safety for that matter) as an intrusion on their "rights". Tell a driver not to use his mobile while driving and you are likely to get a mouthful of abuse. Suggest that a BMW driver uses his indicators and you would probably end up in court for a hate crime.

Why buy a modern car then with all the issues that go with them?
2
@G58 Those were the last real SAABs and go on just about for ever.

@dungareesareforfools I guess I never do journeys long enough to get through a decent CD with only me in the car. That or I hook my phone up to the car system and it plays tracks from the phone memory (that is a lot of music! ). Did you ever drive in the days of the cassette or 8 track?
2
@danisaac Too many people have or nearly have accidents because they don't bother to clear their screens already.
2
Most modern cars have air con so you just set the temperature you like and forget about it. Mind you, I will try to avoid a car with a touch screen as long as I can.

@sambrooks7862 Yes, it is used in various place names in the UK and I suspect it is from the old English or similar.
2
@scaryfakevirus So you think the green cross code and the cycling proficiency test were all for "their own good". I would leave off the herbs if they have made you that paranoid!

@JunkyardDog-q1h Another stupid Americanism we could do without!
1
@scaryfakevirus Out of interest, how did you come up with your name? I know a number of people who were very ill with what could only have been "the" virus before it was ever acknowledged to be such or before vaccines were available. The affects were very scary and certainly not fake.

Hitler came to power because a certain group crashed the German economy, maybe that is the plan? Try once again to rid the world of those people who cause so many problems.
1
@apocalypticweasel9078 We have a lot of 20 limits where I live but on many it is wishful thinking to get close to that with any degree of safety.
1
How on earth can driving at 20 be more stressful than at a faster speed? Round my city 20 is a pretty good speed to be able to achieve a lot of the time. The place was designed before cars were commonly owned.
1
@tombartram7384 Isn't that exactly the same as a 30 limit or a 70 limit? I have fallen foul of a 30 limit myself twice, I have to admit through lack of concentration and following other traffic. On one occasion it was in Dorset where they hadn't signed up to speed camera warnings and had speed limits that changed regularly. My fault for not paying attention to signs.
1
@tombartram7384 It sounds like there are a lot of modern cars where the flexibility of the engine really isn't that good. They must be a nightmare to drive in heavy traffic where you go from stop to 25 (if you are lucky!) and back continuously. Luckily my little city car and my big 4x4 seem to not be that bad in this situation.
1
@tombartram7384 One of our old family cars was famously capable of accelerating from 10 to 70 smoothly in top gear (it was a recommended test to check timing etc in the manual). The other part of the test was 30 in 1st before power loss.
1
@dungareesareforfools Aren't you supposed to make all the adjustments and settings before you move off, or is that a bit old fashioned?
1
@Joeb4iley Do you have to tell it to turn the indicators on and to stop the correct side of the line at traffic lights as well?
1
@markriding1267 Now there is a truly shocking thing. Just as bad as the famous Marconi suicides and the very suspicious one of a former friend.
