  1. One of my uncles died very rapidly of cancer in his sixties having been pretty fit and healthy up to that point (running the London marathon etc). Mind you, that was around 40 years ago.

  10. The only problem with natural immunity is if you don't spend a lot of time around other people you tend not to build up immunity. You can see that very clearly from teachers and nurses who rarely seem to get colds and flu.

  11. I just wish the vaccine had been tested longer - maybe using prisoners as it would not matter if it worked or not or had bad side effects. That way more people would almost certainly have suffered and died of covid and the roads would not have so much traffic on them.

  13. My stepson, a rabid anti vaxxer, very nearly died of a flu related illness yesterday! He had been pretty ill a few months before Covid became recognised with what we are sure was covid based on the symptoms. Luckily he was in an ambulance when he "died" the first time.

  15.  @Challengerscatpack50  It was about 20 years ago she died having had a minor stroke and a bad fall at home and not being found for some time. After hospital she was in a home slowly fading away, not having any idea what was going on around her or who anyone was, not even able to feed herself. Father died a good few years before very suddenly from a massive heart attack having had a nice Christmas. That is how I want to go (I have around 3 years to go to outlive him!)

  18. I wonder how many people died of pneumonia before Covid became "official" as a result of Covid infection? I know of a number of people who were seriously ill with what are now recognised Covid symptoms.

  22.  @mcirelandosharma7411  Genuine "Insider" information is generally the most reliable as they are the ones least likely to gain from "adjusting" the facts. Some of these recent health issues seem to be linked to increased pet ownership (generally dogs). Tetanus is a particularly nasty killer yet fairly reliably preventable. I don't know a huge amount about the other one but I do know it is not good for you!

  29.  @markwest8960  You say shingles is almost unheard of in people that age but that is probably because of the MMR vaccine most will have had as a child. Sadly a lot of trendy parents did not get their children vaccinated when they should have which leaves them at risk from some nasty conditions as they get older.

  38. Thank goodness for the clear vision of hindsight! I recall before "it" became recognised in the UK a number of people I know becoming very ill with what was almost certainly covid. My neighbour said he thought he was going to die as he was so bad! Thankfully, the scientists worked so hard to try and get a vaccine available because if the death rate in the UK had reached what it did in some countries early on I think the outcry would have been unbelievable!

  50.  @Chris-jl6vk  Given that around 500 to 600 people were dying each year from what is known as "SADS" in the UK pre Covid (solid & certifiable data), I would say that they are about right, otherwise something would have flagged up in various medical publications. You are talking in the order of 2 cases a week which sort of seems believable. I personally have recently fallen foul of people using spreadsheets who have no real concept of mathematics/ numbers at HMRC when a big lump payment from my pension got added to my normal monthly payment and shown up in place of a standard payment. This resulted in a massive adjustment to my tax code which I am currently trying to get put right!
