@LionClanChief It seems very strange that metal tool made in the European countries where highly sought after as trade goods if what you say has a grain of truth in it. What sort of things did they produce?

@KemetledAfrica I had never heard of him until I just looked him up. I am puzzled how he could find out so much about African history to write all those books about it, but knowing his character and what some historians are like I wonder how accurate the books were. By the way, can you recommend any books about African history written by Africans before about 1850 so I can get closer to the truth?

@KemetledAfrica Depends what parts you are talking about. Even South Africa is going backwards fast.

@KemetledAfrica If you can smelt iron, then the manufacture of guns is pretty easy.

@patkearney9320 Like many so called "inventions", melting iron would have been an accidental discovery and just melting a lump of material that is fairly pure iron would not have required anything more than a good hot fire. Making good quality iron from iron ore is something very different.

@KemetledAfrica So it is true, Africans invented slavery and even took slaves from Europe for quite some time before the more famous slave trade where Europeans bought them from Africa.
