Back in the day, the "Left" were the people who protested against the wealthy elite, corruption and excessive police powers etc. Now it seems to be the opposite (if you believe what is commonly said). The elite & the wealthy and their desire for power and control would always be seen as the ultimate aim of capitalism where as the desire to do good for the ordinary people of the country (and the country itself) would be considered to be socialist. How times have changed!
