  1. What we need is a break-away lifeboat service. The RNLI are without doubt the best lifeboat service in the world when it comes to rescuing people in trouble on the water. Most of the time they are rescuing idiots who get themselves in trouble but they also go out in extreme conditions to rescue people in real trouble. I still support them begrudgingly as I am a regular water user (sailing my yacht) and I have actually used their services. The government in the form of Border Force should be taking control of the situation rather than relying on volunteers who are there to rescue people in trouble. Maybe the RNLI should start charging to rescue people who have got into their situation due to recklessness? The kids who drift out to sea on inflatables and drunks who jump of piers and the like?
